The Maiduguri city government reports that suicide bombings carried out by Boko Haram are increasing in the city. According to preliminary statistics, the number of civilian casualties has reached hundreds in the suicide bombings of the past few weeks alone.

In response to Boko Haram's rampage, Muhammadu Buhari, who just took office as President of Nigeria on May 30, declared that the fight against the notorious Islamist terrorist group remains a national priority. Following a series of attacks in Maiduguri, authorities also announced that the government would quickly deploy a command center to coordinate military operations against Boko Haram to Maiduguri.
