Nissan produces “self-driving” slippers
At a hotel in Japan, you'll find everything that moves on its own, from slippers to TVs. This is where Nissan tests its latest technology.
While the world is focusing on self-driving cars, Nissan is creating slippers that can park themselves like cars. This could be the start of a new technological revolution in the future. |
ProPILOT Park Ryokan is the name of the hotel where Nissan will deploy its technology, located 80 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. |
On the outside, the ProPILOT Park Ryokan doesn’t look much different from other traditional hotels. However, everything inside the hotel is packed with Nissan’s latest technology, from the slippers to the decorative pillows. |
The slippers here use semi-autonomous technology, similar to the one used on the Nissan Leaf launched late last year. After moving from their original location, the slippers can return to their original location with just a push of a button at the reception desk. |
Inside each slipper are small wheels and motors that help them move, all connected to a wireless command port. |
Likewise, the cushions and tables in the living room are equipped with this technology. Even the TV remote knows its position on the table and returns when it receives a command. |
