The 7-seater model based on the Nissan Navara may debut at the Beijing exhibition in April 2018, as a new rival to the Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

Reported by the media two years ago, Nissan's new SUV will officially appear at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show, according to Drive. The vehicle is developed from the Navara pickup truck, and will compete with the Fortuner, Everest, Pajero Sport, and mu-X (Isuzu).

At the Tokyo Motor Show taking place in the Japanese capital, Ashwani Gupta, Senior Vice President of Renault's light commercial vehicle division, confirmed the latest project, while revealing that "please wait patiently until the Beijing Motor Show".

Nissan has not yet said anything clear about the new model, from the name, design or any details about the SUV developed based on Navara. In September, the Middle Eastern media introduced the hypothetical design of the future model and called it Nissan Paladin.

Meanwhile, experts are hesitant to say for sure that the new SUV will have 7 seats, or both 5 and 7 seat versions. The name could be Xterra - the name of the SUV model produced by the Japanese company since 1999 and sold in some markets with different names (Xterra in North America, Paladin in China, Roniz in Iran).

The new SUV is expected to use a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine combined with a manual transmission or an optional automatic transmission, similar to the Navara pickup model.

In the Vietnamese market, Toyota Fortuner's competitors include Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ford Everest and Hyundai Santa Fe. Currently, there are no Nissan models participating in the competition.
