Efforts to promote traditional Vietnam-Myanmar relations

Vietnam and Myanmar affirmed their efforts to promote bilateral relations in order to contribute to common development.

On the afternoon of July 24th, in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and a high-level delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly held talks with the Chairman of the Upper House and Chairman of the Parliament of the Union of Myanmar, Khin Aung Myint, met with the Speaker of the Lower House, Thura U Shwe Mann, and paid a courtesy call on the President of Myanmar, U Thein Sein.

Besides discussing the traditional cooperative relationship between the two countries and the relationship between the two parliaments in recent times, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and the leaders of Myanmar affirmed their efforts to promote Vietnam-Myanmar relations, aiming to contribute to the common development of each country in various fields, including parliamentary cooperation.

During talks with the Chairman of the Upper House and Chairman of the Parliament of the Union of Myanmar, Khin Aung Myint, Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung expressed his pleasure at visiting the beautiful and hospitable country of Myanmar.

The Speaker of the National Assembly congratulated the people of Myanmar on the achievements they have made in building and developing their country and expressed confidence that Myanmar will continue to develop sustainably and stably.

Speaker Nguyen Sinh Hung and the Speaker of the Myanmar Parliament expressed confidence that the signing of the first Cooperation Agreement between the two Parliaments during this visit by the high-level Vietnamese National Assembly delegation will provide an important legal framework for implementing bilateral cooperation activities between the two sides.

Both sides agreed to strengthen the exchange of legislative experience, oversight, and issues related to the operation of parliaments. The two newly established parliamentary friendship groups, Vietnam-Myanmar and Myanmar-Vietnam, will serve as bridges for this fruitful cooperative relationship.

The two Speakers of Parliament affirmed their commitment to strengthening close cooperation in promoting and monitoring the implementation of agreements and treaties between the two governments. To ensure the effectiveness of these commitments, both sides pledged to continue cooperating, supporting, and coordinating closely at international inter-parliamentary forums, especially within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). Speaker Nguyen Sinh Hung expressed gratitude to the Myanmar Parliament for supporting Vietnam's hosting of the 132nd IPU General Assembly in 2015.

The two Speakers of Parliament expressed confidence that the results of the talks would positively promote cooperative relations between the two Parliaments, contributing to strengthening and developing the good traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar.

During the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung congratulated Myanmar on electing its legislature and officially becoming a full member of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

Both sides affirmed that the Joint Statement between the two countries and many signed documents, especially in the 12 priority areas of agriculture, fisheries, finance and banking, aviation, etc., will contribute to strongly promoting economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries.
