Self-study efforts of female valedictorian in rice fields

Nguyen Thi Ngoc, valedictorian of Danang University of Economics, majoring in information systems management.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc, the new valedictorian born in 1998, majoring in information systems management at the University of Economics, Da Nang, was just honored at the "Step Up to School" scholarship awarding ceremony for 51 valedictorians of Southern universities on November 11. To achieve the success she has today, Ngoc had to make a lot of effort.

Born into a farming family in Yen Thanh, Nghe An, with three children, the family was poor and she was the eldest sister, so Ngoc was aware of her responsibilities from an early age. For Ngoc, difficult circumstances are now an obstacle, but instead, it is a motivation that helps her become one of the best students in her class throughout her school years.

Every day, Ngoc memorizes the theory in class, completes the teacher's exercises, and practices more in textbooks, workbooks, and references. At the end of each chapter, she compiles the formulas in a small notebook.

Ngoc’s secret to studying is perseverance, especially with difficult problems. If she can’t solve them, she looks at the teachers’ solutions and memorizes them. She always wants to study well and become a useful person to be worthy and repay her parents’ efforts.

Ngoc’s outstanding efforts were rewarded the day she learned that she had passed the university entrance exam with a high score. For Ngoc, the moment she was most moved and satisfied with her efforts was the moment her father rode his bicycle around the neighborhood, loudly boasting to the neighbors that “My daughter got 29 points on the university entrance exam” (Ngoc got an extra 1.5 priority points).

However, the cost of college is also a burden for Ngoc's family. Therefore, on the day she left for college alone, Ngoc promised herself that she would try harder to practice and study, not fall into frivolous temptations to study well and repay her parents' kindness.

Regarding the future, Ngoc is practicing English through books as well as an online English course to continue her dream of studying abroad. In addition, she also plans to work to gain experience to serve her dream of becoming an entrepreneur in the future.
