The 2015 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the National Dialogue Quartet "for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia following the Jasmine Revolution of 2011," reports nobelprize.org.

The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet was formed in the summer of 2013. The group supported the democratization process in Tunisia when the country was at risk of collapse.

"The group established an alternative peaceful political process at a time when Tunisia was on the brink of civil war," Reuters quoted Kaci Kullman Five, head of the committee, as saying. "The prize is an encouragement to the Tunisian people who have overcome many challenges to lay the foundations for a united nation. The committee hopes this will be a model for other countries to follow."

The Norwegian Nobel Committee hopes that this year's prize will also contribute to the protection of democracy in Tunisia, and be an inspiration to those who want to promote peace and democracy in the Middle East, North Africa and around the world.

The Nobel Peace Prize worth 8 million Swedish crowns (972,000 USD) will be awarded on December 10 in Oslo, Norway./.
