How sadness destroys health
Feeling sad is not as serious as depression but it disrupts body functions and affects loved ones.
We all know that depression leads to health problems like heart disease, diabetes, and panic attacks. In fact, even everyday sadness can make you weak.
According to Prevention, research published in the journal Molecular PsychiatrycommentWhen bored, the brain releases opium-like chemicals to compensate, which hinders the immune system's activity, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke and metabolic syndrome.

"Even if sadness isn't depression, it still suppresses the body for a certain period of time," said Dr. John E. Mayer (USA), clinical psychologist and author of Family Fit.The longer the sadness lasts, the more stress hormones like cortisol increase. As a result, blood sugar, blood pressure, and sleep quality are disrupted. You are also prone to headaches and muscle and joint pain.
In addition, eating habits will change. A 2013 study in Plos One found that bad moods make you crave foods that taste bitter, sweet, or sour. This can lead to nutritional deficiencies and excess weight, and in the long term, even cause high blood pressure and heart disease.
Worse, your sadness can also affect your loved ones, especially your spouse, a 2014 study in the journal Motivation and Emotion found.
Fortunately, feelings of sadness usually pass quickly and don’t last 24/7 like depression. To reduce stress on both your body and mind, you should meditate or exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and eat a healthy diet.
