The house of Mr. Moong Van Tue, a 34-year-old man who died of alcohol poisoning, is right at the entrance of the village. Mr. Moong Van Thin, Tue's father, is one of the few people in the family who is calmest when talking to visitors. He has two sons, Moong Van Di and Moong Van Tue, and a daughter-in-law, Lo Thi Van, who died suddenly after just one drinking session.

It has been the third day but the atmosphere of grief still covers the small house. From the street, we can clearly hear the crying of Ms. Hien, Mr. Tue's wife. The pain of losing her husband suddenly made the 32-year-old woman almost collapse. She cried continuously for the entire half hour that we were in the house. Hien is the maiden name of the mother of two young children. Since marrying her husband, she has been called Moong Thi Tue. This way of calling by her husband's name is a habit of the Khmu people and is also shown in the household registration book which only has 4 members in the family.

At present, only the mother and two young children remain in the house. Moong Thi E (also known as Hinh) is in kindergarten, the second child is Moong Van Dan (born in 2016). Although nearly 2 years old, Dan cannot walk by himself. “All day long, he just cries and eats. He cannot speak yet. The first child has also suffered from paralysis since childhood and has a lisp,” said Mr. Thin.
Relatives and neighbors still came to offer their condolences. Most of them were quite quiet. A group of women lit a fire and sat in front of their house to warm themselves.

We went up a few more slopes to the house of Moong Van Di and Lo Thi Van, the couple who died of alcohol poisoning on the afternoon of March 12. The house was still packed with people coming to pay their respects. In the middle room of the stilt house, Di’s two children, Moong Van Oi and Moong Thi Xoa, sat quietly next to a tray of offerings. The bereaved family was performing a ritual for the deceased.

Oh, 19 years old, Xoa, 17 years old, just sat there silently, not bothering to answer the guests' questions. Perhaps the pain of losing their parents was too much for the two young men to bear.
The Village Management Board said: Mr. Di and Ms. Van have 3 children. The eldest daughter is married. The youngest daughter just dropped out of school while in 11th grade. This young girl had just moved to her husband's house when her parents suddenly passed away.

Village chief Lo Van Vinh said: The incident is the first case of alcohol poisoning in the village. In Cha Lan, not many people have the habit of using forest plants to soak in wine for medicine. According to the villagers, the toxin that caused the death in the recent incident was a forest fruit called "mac nha". This bitter forest fruit is still used by the villagers as medicine to treat stomachaches. "People only scrape a little bit to drink. No one soaks it in wine" - said a person attending the funeral at Mr. Di's house.
Mr. Moong Van Thin added: The victim, Lu Van Kham, his son-in-law, is currently receiving emergency treatment at Nghe An General Hospital and has regained consciousness. But his health is still very weak./.
