Emerging situation of armed subjects organizing drug trafficking in border districts

(Baonghean.vn) - According to the assessment of the authorities of Nghe An province, drug crimes detected in the area increased compared to 2017 and continued to develop complicatedly. The situation of some groups of subjects carrying "hot" weapons to organize illegal drug trafficking in border districts has emerged.

From November 1, 2017 to October 30, 2018, Nghe An provincial authorities discovered and arrested 1,229 cases with 1,517 subjects illegally buying and selling drugs; an increase of 127 cases and 152 subjects compared to the same period.

The situation of drug smuggling across the Vietnam - Laos border into Nghe An is still potentially large. Specifically, 63 lines have been discovered and eliminated, and 94 subjects have been arrested.

The modus operandi of drug criminals is becoming more and more sophisticated and daring. There are some groups of people carrying “hot” weapons to illegally buy and sell drugs in border districts.

The authorities launched an armed attack, repelled 7 groups of 18 people, arrested 6 people, demolished 12 tents and camps, seized 3 mines, 1 grenade, 18 homemade guns, 3 knives and swords of various types. 11 police and border guards were injured while on duty to arrest drug criminals.

Meanwhile, according to statistics, Nghe An province currently has 6,901 drug addicts with controlled records, 353/480 communes, wards and towns have drugs, of which 141 communes, wards and towns are key drug areas.
