On the morning of July 18, in Hanoi, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi City solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Laos diplomatic relations and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

Exactly 40 years ago today, July 18, 1977, Vietnam and Laos signed the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. The treaty has important significance in strengthening and expanding the special relationship between the two countries in the new era.
Historically, Vietnam and Laos have stood shoulder to shoulder in the struggle against French colonialism and American imperialism. After gaining independence, the two countries have entered a new phase of national reconstruction and development.
