Deputy director lost nearly 400 million VND in hotel
On September 20, 2017, Deputy Director of the Department of Environmental Protection Control (General Department of Environment - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) Nguyen Xuan Quang, along with Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nam (from Thai Binh), Mr. Dau Ba Tung (from Nghe An) and 2 people from Ho Chi Minh City went to TV Hotel in Long An to book 3 rooms (Mr. Quang stayed in a separate room).
On the morning of September 26, a member of the delegation reported to the hotel that Mr. Quang had lost his laptop. A short while later, Mr. Quang reported that 385 million VND had been lost.
Mr. Quang said that when he went to Long An for work, he brought 400 million VND to transfer to his brother-in-law, but before he could transfer it, it was stolen.
According to him, it was family money, his wife gave it to bring to Saigon for his sister-in-law. But because he was busy with work and had not had time to give it, it was stolen while he was at a motel.
Deputy Minister of Justice lost nearly 300 million VND in 2011
At around 2:45 a.m. on March 18, 2011, a thief broke into the office of Mr. Hoang The Lien - then Permanent Deputy Minister of Justice - at the Ministry's headquarters, and stole about 245 million VND and 2,000 USD.

Some information said that the stolen money was Mr. Lien's savings and was kept for the Hoang family.
On April 4, the Department of Investigation of Social Order Crimes of Hanoi City Police arrested the perpetrator, Vu Huy Bao (born in 1975, residing in Nam Dinh).
Super thief caught red-handed by Mr. Vo Kim Cu in 2015
At around 8:00 p.m. on June 20, 2015, Nguyen Tien Quan (34 years old, residing in Quang Binh) went to the office of Ha Tinh Provincial Party Secretary Vo Kim Cu and was breaking open the door when he was discovered by Mr. Cu.
Facing Mr. Cu, Quan panicked and jumped from the second floor, injured himself and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Previously, Nguyen Tien Quan successfully broke into and stole money from Mr. Cu's office when he was Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province.
According to the investigation results, out of 13 times breaking into the leaders' offices, Quan successfully carried out the act 4 times.
Twice he broke into the office of the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province and stole about 100 million VND, once he broke into the office of the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Loc district and stole 233 million VND, and the other time he broke into the office of the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Ha district and stole 20 million VND.
Kon Tum Department of Finance Director was 'robbed' of 65 taels of gold in 2013
It seems that thieves know how to choose houses to rob. The evidence is that the house of the Director of the Department of Finance of Kon Tum Province, Dang Xuan Tho, in Pleiku City (Gia Lai), was broken into and 65 taels of gold (nearly 2.8 billion VND) were stolen while Mr. Tho's family was traveling on the night of January 1, 2013.

At the time of the theft, Mr. Tho's wife, Ms. Tran Thi Xuan Lan, was working as Head of the Organization Department, Gia Lai Provincial Tax Department.
By July 2014, the four thieves who committed the robbery at Mr. Tho's house were sentenced by the Gia Lai Provincial People's Court to a total of nearly 72 years in prison.
Director of Department of Natural Resources and Environment lost 1.6 billion in 2014
On August 10, 2014, District 1 Police, Ho Chi Minh City accepted to investigate the theft of 1.6 billion VND from Mr. Dao Anh Kiet - Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

The theft occurred right at the headquarters of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment on Ly Tu Trong Street (Ben Nghe Ward, District 1).
Mr. Kiet declared that the lost assets were more than 1.6 billion VND, including 1 billion VND and more than 30,000 USD. He said that this was the amount of money he had saved during his 37 years working at the Department of Industry and Trade.
Director of Bac Kan Department of Transport was robbed of 1.2 billion in 2014
At the end of May 2014, while summoning a number of subjects who committed thefts in Bac Kan town, the Bac Kan Provincial Police discovered three more subjects who committed robberies at the homes of Mr. Lang Van Hoa - Director of the Bac Kan Department of Transport and Ms. Duong Thi Hanh - an official of the Provincial Party Committee on May 7.
The lost assets included 5 SJC gold bars, 40,000 USD, 1 bracelet, 2 wedding rings, 3 motorbikes and 3 personal mobile phones. The total value of the assets was about 1.2 billion VND.
Police later seized 5 taels of SJC gold and 31,000 USD.
Tax officer's house lost more than 6 billion
The theft occurred at the house of Mr. Truong Cong Chien (born in 1960, residing in Tan Nhat commune, Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) on December 5, 2011.
Mr. Chien is the Captain of the Registration Team of the Tax Department of Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City.
The thief forced open the safe and took 12 savings books worth 5 billion VND, 6,000 USD, 10 taels of SJC gold, a jewelry set worth 10 taels of 24k gold, 2 diamond earrings, and a diamond ring. The total loss of assets was more than 6 billion VND.
More than 2 billion in provincial officials' houses "evaporated"
On the night of June 25, 2013, a large amount of property was stolen from the private home of Ms. Tran Thi Anh Dao (office staff of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee) and her husband, a traffic police officer of Nghe An Provincial Police who had just retired.
Ms. Dao's family reported that thanks to their good savings, they had 60 million VND and 57 taels of gold (total assets of more than 2 billion VND), but thieves broke into the cabinets and safes and stole them.
Afterwards, three suspects involved in this daring theft were arrested.
