Anh Son farmers enter the early harvest of winter vegetables

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam's family in village 5, Thach Son commune is "making money" every day from 5 sao of mustard greens and 1 sao of water spinach. Ms. Tam shared: The family has 8 sao of land on the Lam river bank specializing in growing vegetables. This winter, the family mainly grows mustard greens, water spinach, green beans and cabbage. These are traditional crops of the locality. Mustard greens and water spinach have been harvested for more than a week now.Unfavorable weather is the reason why vegetablesIt is easy to make and sell, and has a good price. On average, each day her family picks 150 bunches of mustard greens and 20 bunches of water spinach at a price of 3,000 VND/bunch, giving her family an income of over 300,000 VND/day.

While quickly selecting the mustard greens that are ready to be bundled for traders, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, village 6, Thach Son commune, said: This winter, her family is very excited because her family's 7 sao of vegetables are growing well, giving a good yield. For many years, vegetables have been the main crop in the winter because they are easy to grow, easy to care for, and have few pests. The family has only been harvesting vegetables for 10 days but has earned nearly 4 million VND. It is calculated that each sao of vegetables brings in an income of 5 - 6 million VND. In particular, mustard greens are planted in alternating crops, so they will be harvested from now until Tet.

Winter vegetable production has been considered a strength and the main source of income for Anh Son farmers for many years. This winter crop, the whole district planted over 500 hectares of various vegetables, concentrated in the communes of Cam Son, Thach Son, Lang Son, Tao Son... of which more than 300 hectares of various beans; 100 hectares of squash and pumpkin and 200 hectares of sweet potatoes on fields, alluvial land and hillsides.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dang - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Anh Son district said: The main crops being harvested now are: mustard greens, green beans, and water spinach. Most of the early winter crops being harvested now have high prices and are easy to sell. According to farmers, currently, the selling price of mustard greens at the field is 3,000 VND/bunch, water spinach is 4,000 VND/bunch, and water spinach is 10,000 VND/kg... With this price, each sao of early winter vegetables is bringing in an average income of 5 - 6 million VND.

To ensure that winter vegetables grow and develop well, Anh Son district has propagated and mobilized people to follow the crop calendar, and directed localities to mobilize people to convert ineffective land areas to commercial vegetable cultivation. Propaganda for people to introduce new vegetable varieties, use fertilizers effectively for high yield, prioritize new crop varieties with high yield and economic value into production, in order to diversify crops and increase income for people./.
