Farmers in Anh Son earn a good income by raising French pigeons.
(Baonghean.vn) -Raising French pigeons is a new model being adopted by many people in Anh Son district, providing them with a decent income.
This is the French pigeon farming model of Mr. Le Van Thanh's family in Hamlet 5, Hoi Son Commune. Since 2014, Mr. Thanh has invested 20 million VND in building cages and bought 30 pairs of French pigeon breeding stock from Bac Giang province. Thanks to good cage construction, proper care, and correct techniques, his family's pigeon flock has gradually increased year after year.

Mr. Thanh said: French pigeons are easy to raise, have high resistance to disease, reproduce quickly, and are easy to sell. Breeders need to set up cages in a dry, airy, quiet place, ensuring protection from rain and drafts, and their main food is corn and rice.
French pigeons begin breeding after 6 months of raising, and a pair can lay up to 7-8 clutches a year. With 200 pairs of breeding pigeons, Mr. Thanh's family has about 150 pairs of pigeons each month, both for breeding and meat.
If we consider the current selling price of a breeding pair at 350,000 VND, and the price of meat birds at around 120,000 VND per pair, then after deducting expenses, Mr. Thanh earns 5 million VND per month.

Mr. Hoang Xuan Tu's family in Hamlet 4, Hoi Son Commune, also raises French pigeons on an industrial scale. Mr. Tu said: Initially, he bought 25 pairs of breeding pigeons. Because he applied the correct technical procedures, after 5 months of raising them, the birds did not suffer any losses, developed well, and produced their first clutch. He decided to keep all the young pigeons from the first year for breeding.
Mr. Tu added: on an area of 50 m²2The pigeon coop he built is sturdy, clean, and has a corrugated iron roof surrounded by B40 wire mesh. Inside, it is divided into two rows of coops, each row consisting of two levels, with each level divided into 24 small compartments equipped with feeders, waterers, nesting boxes, and incubation boxes.

Currently, Mr. Tu's breeding stock has reached 70 pairs, producing an average of 30 pairs of chicks per month. With a selling price of 80-100 thousand VND per pair annually, this brings a considerable income to Mr. Tu's family.
Currently, in Anh Son district, there are dozens of industrial-scale pigeon breeding models (both French and common breeds), concentrated in the communes of Phuc Son, Hoi Son, Binh Son, and Thach Son. According to breeders, pigeons are easily adaptable to rural environments, anyone can raise them, they offer high economic efficiency, and there is a large market demand.
Pigeon droppings are also very effectively used as fertilizer for crops, so expanding this model will help create jobs, increase income for farmers, and provide a source of safe, highly nutritious food to meet consumer demand.
