Anh Son farmers plant more than 500 hectares of winter vegetables
(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, Anh Son farmers are urgently focusing on preparing the land to plant more than 500 hectares of various vegetables, considering this a crop that brings high and stable income in the year.
Taking advantage of the favorable weather, Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan's family in village 1/5 of Cam Son commune is planting squash and cabbage on the alluvial land. Ms. Toan said: This year, the family grows over 5 sao of vegetables, mainly squash, the rest are green beans, cabbage... Currently, the family has planted 50% of the area.
According to Ms. Toan's experience, growing green squash has a much higher economic value than other vegetables, the investment is not too large, the growing period is only 70-80 days, and the harvest is done every 1-2 days. Each sao of squash yields 2 tons, and after deducting costs, each sao also brings in an income of over 10-12 million VND. Along with green squash, this year Ms. Toan also intercrops, intercrops, and diversifies vegetables to help her family have a stable income.

Along with other vegetables, winter melon is a crop that has been widely grown in Cam Son this winter. Along with many other farming households, Mr. Vuong Dinh Trinh's family in Hoi Lam village is currently focusing on planting 4 sao of winter melon on the land. According to Mr. Trinh: "Previously, my family did not pay attention to winter crop production, mainly in the form of self-sufficiency for the family. But now, my family is really interested in winter crop production because this is the crop that brings high and stable income during the year.
According to Mr. Trinh's experience, growing squash does not require too much investment, the growth period of squash is only 1 month, harvested every 1-2 days. Each sao of squash yields from 1.5 to 2 tons, after deducting costs, each sao also brings in an income of 10 million VND.

As one of the localities with favorable conditions for commodity vegetable production, in recent years, winter vegetable production in Anh Son has had a clear change. In addition to maintaining and expanding the area of traditional crops, the district has directed localities to focus on agricultural development towards safe and quality productivity, creating concentrated and sustainable commodity production areas.
Mr. Hoang Xuan Cuong - Vice Chairman of Anh Son District People's Committee said: According to the 2017 winter crop production project, Anh Son district planted over 500 hectares of various vegetables, concentrated in Cam Son, Thach Son, Lang Son, Tao Son; of which more than 300 hectares of various beans, 100 hectares of squash and 200 hectares of sweet potatoes on fields, alluvial land, and hillsides. Currently, people in the localities have focused on planting seeds in time for the season.
To complete the proposed plan, the district continues to direct localities to mobilize people to convert ineffective land areas to commercial vegetable cultivation. Propaganda for people to introduce new vegetable varieties, use effective fertilizers for high-yield crops. In addition, the district also encourages localities to base on the conditions and soil quality of regional planning, arrange appropriate seed structure, prioritize the introduction of new crop varieties with high yield and economic value into production, in order to diversify crops and increase income for people.
