(Baonghean) - Up to this point, Mr. Tan's farm has received 40 imported sows, each worth 35 million VND.

With the goal of supplying the market with safe pork products and at the same time reducing environmental pollution in livestock farming, in early 2017, Mr. Le Quoc Tan, in Hamlet 5, Hung Tien Commune (Hung Nguyen) started switching to a high-tech closed-house pig farming model, following the VietGAHP process.

After learning about economic development directions in the media and attending training courses on livestock farming, especially pig farming in a closed cycle, applying high technology, Mr. Tan was determined to build a farm far from residential areas for livestock farming.

With the support of his family, loans from banks, relatives, friends and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the district, supporting the purchase of imported pig breeds at 1 million VND/pig, from this year, Mr. Tan started building a farm with an investment of up to billions of VND, in which the main focus is closed-loop super-lean sow farming, according to VietGAHP standards.

Mr. Tan's farm for raising super lean imported sows is built spaciously, cleanly, and airy on an area of nearly 3 hectares, with separate areas: pregnant sow area, farrowing sow area, reserve pig area, and breeding barn area. All rows of barns are equipped with air conditioning, temperature, air filtration systems, ventilation fans to remove odors, waste treatment systems with biogas tanks, etc.

Mr. Tan said: Raising pigs according to the VietGAHP model, all processes are carried out systematically... In particular, all pig care activities from feeding time, vaccination, daily hygiene schedule must be recorded in the pig farming diary for monitoring. The advantage of this process is to promptly detect errors in the farming process, trace them back to the records to have corrective measures. Right from the first step, the food must be guaranteed to be safe.

When the piglets are 3 months old, they are fed a complete mixed feed and vaccinated according to the veterinarian's instructions. When the piglets are 3 months old or older, they will be switched to organic feed mixed with 60% corn, 20% rice bran, 20% soybeans, without using any substances such as antibiotics, growth promoters or lean meat additives.

Up to this point, Mr. Tan's farm has received 40 imported sows, each worth 35 million VND. Within 6 months, when 165 pigs have been received, the breeding process will stabilize, with an estimated average sale of over 4,500 breeding pigs per year.

Mr. Tan added: "Participating in livestock farming according to VietGAHP process, learning about biosafety livestock farming process, strictly implementing vaccination schedule, spraying disinfectant to disinfect barns, so the livestock grow and develop healthily, I feel much more secure."

In addition to raising pigs, Mr. Le Quoc Tan's family also raises nearly 5 hectares of monosex tilapia, taking advantage of clean, natural food sources from plants around the garden. Each batch of fish brings in an income of 20 million VND/ha.

According to Ms. Le Thi Dung - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hung Nguyen district, the whole district currently has 50 farms with more than 200 livestock and poultry farms. 90% of households have registered to participate in clean and safe livestock production. However, Mr. Tan's family farm is the first model to register for livestock farming according to VietGAHP process; this is a solution for sustainable livestock development that Hung Nguyen district will replicate in the coming time./.
