Dien Chau farmers harvest watermelons at the end of the season

(Baonghean.vn) - In the fields of Dien Chau, people are concentrating on harvesting the last watermelons of the season to prepare for winter planting. This year's watermelons have high yields but prices have decreased compared to last year.

Dien Thanh farmers harvest summer-autumn melons

This summer-autumn crop, Dien Thanh planted 50 hectares of watermelon, the watermelons grew well, reaching a yield of 30 tons/ha. Currently, people have harvested 45 hectares, earning more than 1,300 tons of watermelon this crop, worth approximately 5 billion VND.

Mr. Nguyen Thuyet's family, hamlet 10, Dien Thanh, planted 10 sao of watermelon this year. After harvesting about 15 tons of watermelon, he sold it for 60 million VND. The watermelons were purchased by traders at the field, so the output was quite stable, but the price was only 4,000 VND/kg.

Late season melons have big, beautiful fruit.

Ms. Le Thi Huong - Dien Thanh Agriculture officer said: This year, melons are grown mainly in hamlets 4, 6, 10, 11. Last year, watermelons were expensive, about 9,000 VND/kg, but this year, the price has decreased, averaging 4,000 VND/kg. Traders said that at this time, the market consumption is slower than last year.

In the 2016 winter crop, Dien Thanh deployed 209.49 hectares, of which corn was 107 hectares, winter potatoes 5 hectares, winter vegetables of all kinds 70 hectares, winter peanuts 10 hectares, and other vegetables 16.32 hectares. Currently, people are focusing on harvesting melons, planting corn, sowing peanuts, and producing winter vegetable varieties.
