(Baonghean.vn) -After the hot sun, entering the rainy season, shrimp suffer from many dangerous diseases due to sudden weather changes.Currently, shrimp farmers in Quynh Luu are proactively taking many preventive measures.

Mr. Luong Van Tu's family in Quynh Luong commune has 3 shrimp ponds with an area of 1 hectare. Of the 3 ponds, he uses 2 for shrimp farming, the rest is used as settling ponds to treat the water before putting it into the pond.

After harvesting the first crop of shrimp, on July 15, his family continued to release 250,000 shrimp seeds for the second crop on a pond area of 2,800 m2.2After more than 1 month of farming, the shrimp reached 300 shrimp/kg, expected to be harvested in early October.

It has been raining for the past two days, and this is the condition for shrimp diseases to arise due to the change in weather from hot and sunny to cold and rainy. To prevent shrimp diseases, Mr. Tu regularly checks the pond to regulate the appropriate water level in the pond; ensures adequate dissolved oxygen; and especially limits rainwater from flowing into the pond.

“During the rainy season, shrimp are often stressed due to sudden changes in the weather, which makes shrimp weak, reduces resistance and makes them susceptible to many dangerous diseases. Shrimp farmers need to understand the measures and regularly monitor the weather for prevention,” said Mr. Tu.

According to the 2017 plan, the entire Quynh Luu district will release about 642 hectares of shrimp. As of August 18, local people have released 700 hectares of shrimp for the first and second crops; exceeding the set plan. Of which, shrimp for the second crop were released on more than 250 hectares. It is expected that many farming households in Quynh Bang, Quynh Thanh, Quynh Luong communes... will harvest shrimp for the second crop in the next 30-45 days.

However, in weather conditions that change from sunny to rainy and vice versa, the pond temperature will change, causing the shrimp to be "stressed" and shocked, which is an opportunity for many diseases to develop. Signs of shrimp disease in the rainy season include: shrimp burying themselves, poor digestion of food and prey, and susceptibility to diseases such as fungal bacteria, white feces disease, etc. In order to limit diseases occurring in shrimp, localities are actively directing farmers to grasp techniques and monitor the weather to proactively prevent diseases.

Mr. Bui Xuan Truc - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said that in the erratic weather conditions, it is easy to cause some dangerous diseases in shrimp. If people do not take the initiative to prevent, shrimp are very susceptible to disease. To prevent shrimp, in addition to ensuring a reasonable water level in the pond, people need to use lime powder to treat the water in the pond or spread it on the shore; use lime bags hung at the water source to limit the spread of disease. Removing leftover food, cleaning the feeding area, feeding trays, feeding tools to prevent mold, ... will limit the negative effects of leftover food, especially when it rains.

“Antibiotics and chemicals can also be an option at this time to prevent and treat diseases that develop during the rainy season at all stages of shrimp. However, the use of antibiotics and chemicals must strictly comply with regulations on dosage and treatment subjects, especially not using drugs on the banned list,” Mr. Truc advised farmers./.
