Farmers in Nghe An province have achieved success in their first attempt at growing 3-kernel red peanuts.
(Baonghean.vn) - Although planted for the first time on trial in Dien Chau (Nghe An), the red peanut variety with 3 kernels has achieved a yield of up to 2 quintals/acre, 20% higher than other peanut varieties.
The red peanut variety with 3 kernels was tested on 1 hectare in Hamlet 4, Dien An Commune during the spring season; intensive cultivation according to VietGAP standards, applying plastic mulch to retain soil moisture, limit pests and weeds, resulting in good growth of the red peanut plants.

After three and a half months of planting, farmers in Hamlet 4, Dien An are now harvesting peanuts. The red peanuts yield many tubers, with an average of 20 tubers per plant, each containing 3-4 kernels, and having a beautiful red color.
Ms. Cao Thi Sau, a farmer participating in the model, said: "Intensive cultivation of red peanuts is no different from traditional peanut varieties. All the seeds used in production are purchased. Compared to other peanut fields, the yield of red peanuts is up to 20 kg/acre higher."

After the project was implemented, 20 households in the hamlet participated in the model. For the first time, we saw large peanuts with many good characteristics: fragrant, delicious, thin shells, and large kernels. The farmers are very excited and are currently focusing on harvesting and drying them for the North Central Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology to purchase. According to assessments, the spring red peanut crop in Dien An yields 2 quintals of dried peanuts per sao (approximately 1000 square meters), which is 20-30 kg per sao higher than other varieties.
