Nghe An farmers harvest potatoes, earning 150 million VND/ha

With nearly 30 hectares, Dien Phong is the locality with the largest potato growing area in Dien Chau district. Potatoes are grown in a concentrated field and are linked with enterprises that purchase all products.

For the past 3 years, at the end of January, Mrs. Que Thi Huong's family in Nha Nghi hamlet, Dien Phong commune has been busy harvesting winter-spring potatoes. As soon as the potatoes are harvested, businesses come to buy them right in the field.

Ms. Que Thi Huong excitedly said: "This year, my family planted more than 3 sao of potatoes. Thanks to following the correct farming techniques, my family's potato acreage grew and developed well, achieving a yield of more than 1.2 tons/sao, and all the potatoes were consumed."

Mr. Que Van Duyen - Director of Dien Phong Agricultural Cooperative said: "Potato is a crop with seasonal advantages, less competition with other crops. Moreover, it is easy to care for, has few pests and diseases, is suitable for local soil conditions and is quite effective. In the production process, the Cooperative aims to produce according to VietGAP process to create clean and safe products. The Cooperative and its members closely contract with businesses so that potatoes are purchased at appropriate prices."

In the 2024 - 2025 Winter-Spring crop, farmers in Dien Ky commune planted nearly 20 hectares of potatoes. These days, in all fields, farmers went to the fields early to focus on harvesting. Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong excitedly said: “In the 2024 - 2025 Winter-Spring crop, my family planted more than 2 sao of potatoes. Thanks to the attention of local authorities and the Company's technical guidance on planting and care, after 3 months of planting, the potatoes were harvested, with a yield of 1.3 tons/sao. After harvest, large tubers were selected to sell as commercial potatoes, and small tubers were preserved for seeds. After harvest, after deducting investment costs, my family made a profit of about 10 million VND".

In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, the entire Dien Chau district will plant 80 hectares of potatoes. This year, despite many weather difficulties, the yield still reached an average of 1.2 tons/sao. With an average purchase price at the field of 8,000 VND/kg, growing potatoes brings in an income equivalent to 150 million VND/ha, after deducting costs, farmers earn 90 million VND/ha.

Mr. Phan Xuan Vinh - Vice Chairman of Dien Chau District People's Committee said: The district has organized training and transferred science and technology such as pest control, fertilizer use, pesticides, potato planting and care techniques to farmers. At the same time, propaganda and mobilization of farmers to participate in linkages in production and consumption of agricultural products, so that farmers can feel secure in the output stage, stabilize prices, and create large-scale fields. At the same time, promote activities to introduce and find markets to make potatoes easier to consume and increase their value./.
