Nghe An farmers earn high income from jasmine plants during drought

Coming to Nam Xuan and Nam Anh - the capital of lily flowers in Nam Dan district, it is not difficult to see farmers harvesting lily flowers at this time. To avoid the heat, some people leave at 4-5 am to bring lily flowers to the market or to traders.

Just taking a break, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Hamlet 6, Nam Anh Commune excitedly said: This is the 7th year I have grown this plant, on average I pick 40 - 50 kg of jasmine flowers every day, earning around 1 million VND. What makes us happiest is that this plant gives us "fresh money" every day, without having to wait like other plants.
Nam Anh is the commune with the longest tradition of growing jasmine in Nam Dan, the jasmine growing area stretches under the Dai Hue mountain range, with a cool climate and fertile soil, suitable for jasmine to grow. That is also the reason why Nam Anh has become the locality with the largest jasmine growing area in the district with 70 hectares.

In Nam Xuan commune, jasmine is also gradually becoming a key crop, the area of jasmine has increased from 30 hectares initially to 50 hectares. Mr. Vo Van Danh - Vice Chairman of Nam Xuan Commune People's Committee affirmed: In terms of stability and economic value, no crop can surpass jasmine. At peak prices, jasmine can bring in an income of 250 million VND/ha.
It is worth mentioning that while other agricultural products are struggling to find outlets, traders come to buy jasmine flowers at home.
Recently, the hot weather has lasted for a long time, coinciding with the beginning of the harvest season, so the price of jasmine has increased to a record high, some days up to 50,000 VND/kg. People have rushed to harvest and bring to traders, leading to a "sold out" situation.
However, after a period of price fever, jasmine has now entered the main harvest season, the price is currently only 25,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, down about half compared to the beginning of the season. Even so, jasmine growers still earn millions of dong per day.

The area of jasmine in Nam Dan is currently estimated at about 150 hectares, an increase of about 30 hectares compared to previous years. However, the district does not encourage massive expansion of the area because it will affect the output of products later.
