Farmers in Nghe An province earn 200 million VND/hectare from growing loofah for its fibers.

After five months of planting and tending, farmers in Nghe An province are now beginning to harvest their loofah gourds for their fibers. Each crop yields approximately 200-220 million VND per hectare.

Starting in 2024, the Farmers' Association of Thanh Tien commune (Thanh Chuong district) implemented a model of growing loofah for fiber, with a total area of 11,000 square meters dedicated to this crop throughout the commune.²Photo: Thanh Phuc

Cây mướp được trồng vào tháng 1 và tháng 2 hàng năm. Sau 2 tháng thì có thể cho thu hoạch quả non. “Phải tỉa bớt quả non để cây tập trung nuôi quả lấy xơ to, dài. Với đặc tính ngọt, giòn, mướp non được thị trường ưa chuộng và đưa lại cho người trồng khoản thu nhập tăng thêm 4-5 triệu đồng/sào”, bà một hộ dân trồng mướp lấy xơ ở xã Thanh Tiên cho biết. Mướp sau khi thu hoạch được đập cho vỡ lớp vỏ bên ngoài, sau đó ngâm vào nước để vỏ tự tách ra. Sau khi thu hoạch đợt 1, người dân tiếp tục chăm sóc để mướp tiếp tục ra quả. Mỗi vụ mướp thu hoạch 4-5 đợt, thời gian thu hoạch kéo dài đến tháng 10 dương lịch. Trung bình, mỗi vụ, 1ha trồng mướp ngoài bán quả non, người dân có thể thu về 6.000-8.000 xơ, cho thu nhập khoảng 200-220 triệu đồng. Ngoài ra, vỏ mướp còn được người dân tận dụng để ủ phân vi sinh.
