Nghe An farmers grow potatoes on rice land with a yield of 22 tons/ha
(Baonghean.vn) - Nearly 2 hectares of German Solara potato varieties grown on rice land in Hung Long commune, Hung Nguyen district have been harvested, with an estimated yield of 22 tons/ha.
The model of potato production on 2-rice land was deployed by Hung Nguyen district in hamlet 7 and hamlet 8 of Hung Long commune with an area of nearly 2 hectares; 50 households participating in the model were provided with seeds by the district's Agricultural Extension Station, trained in technical processes and instructed on pest control.
After clearing weeds and stubble, the double-rice land was plowed into ridges and fertilized with manure and NPK before planting, thus limiting harmful pests and diseases.

Although the weather was unfavorable, with heavy rain and fog, the potato plants were infected with downy mildew, but the technical staff closely followed the fields, detected and instructed farmers to spray the disease in time, so the plants still grew well.Up to now, after more than 2 months of planting and care, the potatoes have been harvested.

Solara potatoes are planted at a density of 4 clumps/m2On average, each clump has 8-10 tubers, of which 4-5 tubers weigh 100-200 grams/tuber; expected yield is 22 tons/ha.
The success of the potato production model in Hung Long commune opens up a new direction for Hung Nguyen district in arranging winter crops on double-rice land./.
