Farmers' joy when corn prices are good |
Nghia Phu commune is in the right season for summer-autumn corn harvest. This crop, the whole commune planted nearly 50 hectares of corn, mainly hybrid corn varieties VN10, MX2 waxy corn, CP885 hybrid corn. During the production process, the weather was relatively favorable, people applied science and technology to planting so the average yield was estimated at 30-35 tons/ha, with the purchase price at the field from 840 thousand VND - 870 thousand VND/ton, after deducting costs, farmers earned more than 5 million VND per sao.
Mr. Tran Duc Vinh - Phu Loc hamlet, Nghia Phu commune said: "My family has 12 sao of land that used to grow sugarcane. In order to implement the policy of restructuring, my family has converted sugarcane to grow corn as raw material. This is the first crop my family has grown, but the profit from corn is about 60 million VND".
Mr. Truong Quang Thang - Chairman of Nghia Phu Commune People's Committee said: "In recent times, along with promoting the shift of crop structure towards commodities, focusing on citrus trees, the local government has also identified the strengths of corn in the area. Therefore, it has proactively encouraged people to convert low-yield sugarcane and rice areas to grow raw corn to sell to TH Milk Joint Stock Company. For corn, the commune encourages the planting of short-term hybrid corn with high yield, farmers can grow 2-3 crops".

Nghia Thinh farmers sell corn plants to TH farm |
In Nghia Thinh, in the summer-autumn crop of 2016, the commune converted 90 hectares of alluvial land along the Hieu River to grow corn for livestock to supply TH Dairy Food Joint Stock Company. On the 90 hectares of land, people covered it with American hybrid corn. Thanks to favorable weather, the corn grew and developed well, with a yield of about 40 - 45 tons/ha, selling price of 840 thousand VND/ton, each hectare brought in an income of nearly 100 million VND.
From the success of the summer-autumn corn crop, farmers in Nghia Dan communes have boldly increased the crop, gradually forming a raw material production area in the direction of intensive farming, creating large-scale goods to supply to businesses. This is also an important direction in line with the direction that the agricultural sector has directed for the summer-autumn and winter crops.
Nghia Dan currently has 700 hectares of corn, mainly for sale to livestock. The area is near the dairy factory so farmers have a great advantage in selling their products.
