Coming to the sugarcane fields of Hoa Son commune these days, you will feel the hustle and bustle of the farmers. In recent years, sugarcane has been the main crop of Anh Son farmers, bringing high economic efficiency, helping farmers to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.

Having quickly cut the sugarcane to transfer it to the traders for weighing, Ms. Bui Thi Thu Ha in village 1, Hoa Son commune, excitedly said that her family is currently harvesting 3 sao of sugarcane. This year, the family replaced the low-yielding Roc variety with the LK 92-11 variety and, along with proper fertilization techniques, the family's sugarcane yield reached 5 tons/sao. With the purchase price signed with the company of 850,000 VND/ton, after deducting expenses, the income from sugarcane is also over 10 million VND.

Mrs. Le Thi Lien's family in village 1, Hoa Son commune planted 5 sao of raw sugarcane this year, with a yield of 3.5-4 tons/sao. Thanks to growing sugarcane, her family has had a significant source of income. This year's sugarcane crop alone, her family harvested nearly 20 tons of sugarcane, after deducting investment costs, her family still made a profit of over 15 million VND.

In the 2017-2018 crop year, Anh Son district planted 1,540 hectares of raw sugarcane, of which 625 hectares were newly planted, 257 hectares were replanted and 658 hectares were left uncultivated. The estimated yield was over 60 tons/hectare, the output was over 92,500 tons. Currently, the sugarcane price is being purchased on the spot by Song Lam Sugarcane Joint Stock Company at 850 VND/kg. Although the price has decreased compared to last year, this price is acceptable for the people because this is the price that the sugar factory is committed to purchasing stably for a long time.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dang - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Anh Son district said: Right from the beginning of the sugarcane crop, Anh Son district has directed localities to step up propaganda and mobilize people to focus on developing and expanding the area of ​​sugarcane raw material. Organize review and planning of concentrated sugarcane raw material areas by implementing solutions to consolidate and accumulate large-scale land. At the same time, proactively coordinate with purchasing companies to effectively implement investment policies on seeds, fertilizers and techniques for caring for and preventing pests and diseases for sugarcane, focusing on introducing new sugarcane varieties with high yield into mass planting./.
