Que Phong farmers rush to harvest the winter-spring rice crop
After days of prolonged rain, taking advantage of the sunny weather, Que Phong farmers rushed to the fields to harvest the summer-autumn rice crop. Some flooded rice fields have begun to sprout, reducing productivity and quality, so they need to be dealt with urgently.
On the morning of September 25, people in Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district said that after days of prolonged rain, on September 24-25, people were trying to go to the fields to harvest the winter-spring rice crop. This year, Tien Phong planted 297 hectares of winter-spring rice, and by the morning of September 25, 150 hectares had been harvested.

Mr. Phan Xuan Hung - Deputy Director of the Que Phong District Agricultural Service Center said that he has just directed localities to quickly harvest the winter-spring rice crop to minimize the impact of heavy rain and floods. The center has just coordinated with the Que Phong Irrigation Company branch to help households in difficult circumstances harvest the winter-spring rice crop. Specifically, the agencies have helped the households of Mr. Luong Van Hai and Mr. Lu Van Quynh in Tang village, Tien Phong commune to harvest the winter-spring rice crop. These are two households that are poor and in difficult circumstances in the commune.

In the 2024 winter-spring rice crop, Que Phong district has more than 2,274 hectares, planted in most communes, concentrated in the communes of Chau Kim (226 hectares), Tien Phong (297 hectares), Chau Thon (245.9 hectares), Cam Muon (239.1 hectares), Tri Le (373 hectares), Nam Nhoong (107 hectares), Muong Noc (209.8 hectares)...
By the morning of September 25, farmers in the communes had harvested 189 hectares, with an expected yield of 50 - 55 quintals/hectare.
According to Mr. Phan Xuan Hung, it is expected that by the end of September, people will have finished harvesting the winter-spring rice crop. In the two communes of Tri Le and Nam Nhoong, because they mainly cultivate Japonica specialty rice and Khau Cay Noi sticky rice, the harvest is expected to be 2-3 weeks later than other rice crops in other localities. Because these are two localities with special terrain and colder climate than other localities, the time for rice to form ears and ripen is later. Currently, Tri Le commune only has 200 hectares/373 hectares, Nam Nhoong has 17 hectares/107 hectares of rice that have formed ears.

In some localities, due to the impact of storms No. 3 and No. 4, the rice fields were flooded and needed to be harvested immediately. The flooded area was about 40 hectares. In addition, some fields were planted ahead of schedule, the rice ripened earlier, and because of the flooding, there was a phenomenon of sprouting.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the District Agricultural Service Center are recommending that people prioritize harvesting affected rice fields to minimize damage to productivity and quality. At the same time, they should be on guard against heavy rains in the future.
