Quynh Luu farmers cherish a warm Tet from vegetable fields

(Baonghean.vn) - Nearing Tet, vegetable farmers in Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) are happy to have a good income year due to increased prices. These days, the production atmosphere in vegetable villages is very urgent.

In the vegetable growing area of ​​Quynh Luong commune, people here are actively taking care of and harvesting their fields. Large trucks are stopping at the edge of the fields to collect vegetables from the people to transport them to consumers. This year's Tet vegetable crop, the whole commune has nearly 1,000 households producing 215 hectares of various green vegetables, including green mustard, sweet mustard, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, and scallions.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a resident of Quynh Luong commune, said that her family grows 2 sao of vegetables for Tet, including cabbage and cauliflower. From the 10th day of the 12th lunar month, her family has focused on harvesting to sell on the market during Tet. At this time, cabbage is purchased by traders at 2,000 VND/kg; cauliflower at 4,000 VND/kg; tomatoes at 6,000 VND/kg. Although the prices are not high, all the harvested vegetables are purchased, so people are less worried.

Not far away, Ms. Ho Thi Hue's family in Quynh Luong commune is also actively harvesting scallions. Excited about the high price of scallions, Ms. Hue said that traders are currently buying scallions for 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg (4 times higher than a few months ago). However, due to the unfavorable weather conditions for scallions in the winter-spring crop, people often use a lot of acreage to restructure other vegetables to serve the Tet market. Therefore, in the fields, the remaining scallions are very small and are mainly used to grow vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, kohlrabi, mustard greens, etc.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tue - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Luong Commune (Quynh Luu) said that in 2023, the weather was quite favorable, so local people produced vegetables with high productivity and output, and stable prices. With 215 hectares of vegetable area, the total output in 2023 of the commune reached 24,300 tons (an increase of 300 tons compared to 2022). Currently, it is the Tet vegetable season, people are actively taking care of and harvesting to supply the market. Every day, Quynh Luong vegetable area supplies dozens of tons of vegetables of all kinds to the markets of Da Nang, Hue, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh...

The atmosphere of vegetable production during Tet is also bustling in many communes in Quynh Luu district. During the winter-spring vegetable crop, the whole district has 1,600 hectares of vegetable production area, concentrated in the communes of Quynh Minh, Quynh Luong, Quynh Bang, Quynh Van, Quynh Thach, Tan Son... According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district, this year the weather is favorable so farmers produce vegetables with high productivity. The price of vegetables during the cold days increased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Bui Xuan Truc - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said: "In 2023, the district did not suffer from flooding, so vegetable growers had the conditions to produce all year round, without interruption like previous years for about 2-3 months. To supply vegetables and fruits before and during the 2024 Giap Thin New Year, people in vegetable growing areas are busy planting vegetables and fruits.

In addition to focusing on land preparation, sowing and vegetable care, local people also apply organic farming methods, limit the use of pesticides, apply balanced and proper fertilizers, prioritize biological and environmentally friendly pesticides and comply with quarantine periods to create safe products, ensuring the health of consumers.
