(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the extremely hot weather during the day, farmers in localities in Quynh Luu district have taken advantage of going to the fields at night to plant rice in time for the season.

The weather these days has increased to 39 - 40 degrees Celsius, making production more difficult for people. Therefore, many people in Quynh Luu district choose to plant at night during the summer-autumn crop as an effective measure to avoid the heat as well as keep up with the planting schedule set by the superiors.

Now, with just a simple flashlight mounted on their heads, farmers can plant all night, until 10-11pm before returning home to rest. Then, at around 3am, they can go back to the fields to continue working.

According to households, at night the water at the foot of the field is cool, making the rice plants take root faster, avoiding the situation where the transplanted rice wilts, the leaves burn and dies. Moreover, the health of the people is more assured.

According to the district's crop calendar, communes and towns must complete planting before June 10. Some units have actively directed and overcome difficulties in water resources, taking advantage of night planting, so up to now, planting has basically completed 100% of the area such as Quynh Yen, Quynh Ngoc, Quynh Ba, Quynh Hong, Quynh Hau...

In total, the district has planted 4,744/7,400 hectares, reaching 64% of the plan. However, some communes in the district are still slow in implementing production, such as Quynh Van, Quynh Tan, Quynh Thanh, Quynh Lam, Quynh Giang and communes in semi-mountainous areas.

According to Mr. Dau Duc Nam - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Quynh Luu district: In the coming time, if the weather continues to be complicated and hot, there may be a local shortage of water at the beginning of the crop. Therefore, the district directs the Irrigation Enterprise and localities to proactively coordinate to regulate water resources reasonably to each field to create conditions for people to speed up the planting progress.

At the same time, direct people to implement measures to nurture and care for rice seedlings to wait for water for planting or based on the actual situation to plant new seedlings with extremely short-term varieties, do not plant seedlings that are too old, affecting the final harvest yield. For areas that cannot proactively control water or grow rice ineffectively, it is necessary to continue to strengthen mobilization and direct people to switch to other crops.
