(Baonghean.vn) - In order to diversify livestock and improve economic efficiency, Mr. Tran Van Nhan, Hamlet 2, Quynh Dien Commune, Quynh Luu District, has experimented with breeding soft-shell turtles.

In early July 2016, Mr. Nhan went to Ha Tinh to buy 300 soft-shell turtles to raise in an area of 400 m2water surface. When buying the breed, each turtle only weighed 100g, priced at 35,000 VND/turtle. Up to now, after 4 months of care, his family's turtles have reached 800g - 900g/turtle.

Mr. Nhan said: The characteristic of soft-shell turtles is mainly to eat small fish, so food is easy to find, care is also simple, not time-consuming. However, the disadvantage of this type of breed is slow growth. Moreover, during the breeding process, it is necessary to regularly observe and monitor so that when shell rot appears, there are measures to use special medicine to prevent and control it promptly.

With the current growth rate, it is expected that by January 2017, the soft-shell turtles will begin to reproduce. Currently, the market demand is quite large, so in the near future, he will continue to invest in expanding the area on a larger scale to increase the number of soft-shell turtles for meat and reproduction.
