Farmers compete in production, contributing to building new countryside

(Baonghean) - Comrade Nguyen Huu Nhi - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association gave an interview to Nghe An Newspaper.

PV:In recent years, our province has paid attention to and encouraged the movement of farmers competing in production and business and achieved positive results. Could you evaluate the results of the movement in the period (2012 - 2016) in the overall socio-economic development of the province?

Comrade Nguyen Huu Nhi:The movement of farmers competing in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union has really entered the hearts of the people and is increasingly developing deeply, contributing greatly to the process of restructuring the agricultural and rural economy of the province. At the same time, it contributes to improving all aspects of life for farmer members, creating a premise for economic, cultural and social development, maintaining security, political stability, and social order and safety in the locality.

As of December 31, 2016, the whole province had more than 146,000 farming households achieving the title of good production and business households at all levels; of which 556 households were at the central level, more than 4,000 households at the provincial level, 16,000 households at the district level and more than 125,000 households at the grassroots level. Through the annual development, it can be seen that the quality and effectiveness of the movement are increasingly improved, with many households having large production scale with business capital of billions of VND, creating jobs for hundreds of workers, and annual income from 100 million VND to billions of VND. Currently, there are more than 21,000 households with an income of over 200 million VND/year; about 463 households with an income of over 1 billion VND/year.

From the movement, many models of production and business cooperation in the direction of effective sustainable linkage have been built, contributing to diversifying production and developing new industries and services in the rural economy. Up to now, the provincial Associations at all levels have coordinated with departments and branches to build about 158,000 models of household economic development; including more than 32,000 livestock models, 41,000 crop models, 36,000 trade and service models and more than 48,000 other comprehensive production and business models. In general, the production and business models have achieved high economic efficiency, creating regular jobs for thousands of workers, contributing to promoting the province's agricultural, forestry and fishery production to shift towards improving productivity, quality and efficiency; contributing to creating typical agricultural products of the province such as: Van Phan fish sauce, Vinh oranges, Nam Dan soy sauce, Vinh Hoa herbal purple rice, etc.

Mobilize resources from good farming households at all levels, with the spirit of "mutual love", enthusiastically compete in production and business to develop the economy, create many jobs on the spot, help policy families, poor farming households facing difficulties in capital, technology, production experience, create conditions to rise up and escape poverty sustainably.

PV:How does the movement of farmers competing in production and good business contribute to the implementation of new rural construction in our province, comrade?

Comrade Nguyen Huu Nhi:In addition to promoting production development, increasing income, creating more jobs for rural workers; through the movement of good production and business, farmers have been encouraged and motivated to promote the spirit of solidarity to help each other sustainably reduce poverty; build a cultural lifestyle in rural areas; contribute labor and material to the process of building infrastructure and protecting the rural environment. Many good production and business farmers have actively donated land and contributed capital to invest in building welfare works such as schools, clinics, power stations, bridges, and rural roads.

Typically, Mr. Ho Xuan Tung's household in Hamlet 1, Quynh Dien Commune (Quynh Luu) donated 200m2 of residential land and 3.5 million VND to open roads for new rural construction; Mr. Ho Huu Quang's household in Hamlet 8, Quynh Van Commune (Quynh Luu) supported 18 million VND to build a people's bridge in the hamlet; Mr. Tran Dinh Thanh's household in Hamlet 2, Thanh Van Commune (Thanh Chuong) donated 441m2 of residential land and rice fields; in addition, many other farming households in localities in the province voluntarily donated land, working days, money, and materials to build new rural areas...

Up to now, the Association at all levels has propagated and mobilized members and farmers in the province to contribute nearly 5 trillion VND; donated more than 5 million m2 of land; mobilized farmers to contribute thousands of working days equivalent to 465.2 billion VND. Through the movement, the Association at all levels also propagated and mobilized members and farmers in the province through many forms of support, helping more than 46,000 poor farming households to borrow over 125,405 million VND without interest, 18,292 trees, seeds, and various types; tens of thousands of working days, transferred science and technology to thousands of households, created jobs for thousands of workers with stable incomes from 3.5 - 7 million VND/person/month.

The results of the movement of good farmers and businessmen have contributed significantly to the implementation of the national target program on new rural construction with the whole province. Up to now, the whole province has 152 communes meeting the new rural standards; Thai Hoa town is a district-level unit meeting the new rural standards; Vinh city has been recognized by the Prime Minister for completing the task of building new rural areas.

PV:To continue improving the quality and effectiveness of the farmers' movement to compete in production and good business, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty, what contents and solutions need to be focused on in the next phase, comrade?

Comrade Nguyen Huu Nhi:Firstly, strengthen information, propaganda and dissemination of the Party and State's policies and guidelines on agriculture and rural areas, typical good production and business models, to change the awareness of the majority of cadres, members and farmers.

Second, promote and innovate the work of supporting farmers in economic development to promote the development movement; guide farmers in developing appropriate types and objects of production and business.

Third, focus on guiding the movement to develop strongly in the direction of association, cooperation, solidarity and mutual assistance in production and business. Strengthen trade promotion, production information and market search.

Fourth, promote the movement of good production and business development towards commodity production, family economy, farm economy, cooperative economy, developing industries associated with the application of science and technology, contributing to the transformation of economic structure, crop and livestock structure, in order to improve production and business efficiency, solve employment and increase the rate of well-off and rich households, reduce poor households.

Fifth, focus on building and replicating advanced and excellent typical models suitable for each locality. Set an example and organize learning and replicating typical good production and business models and effectively support poor households.
