The sheep farming model of parishioner Nguyen Van Tu is the first model in Yen Thanh - Nghe An. |
After many years of struggling and looking for a direction in economic development, in early 2015, Mr. Nguyen Van Tu decided to buy more than 4 hectares of land from a household at the foot of Ru Bac mountain, hamlet 13, Son Thanh commune to invest in building a comprehensive livestock model. After researching, he found that sheep are easy to raise, no one raised them in Nghe An, so he invested in building a closed barn system and went to Ninh Thuan to buy sheep breeds to raise.
Mr. Tu shared: Although raising sheep is simple, the barn needs to be high, airy and have a lot of light. In particular, it must be built in the style of a stilt house, with the wooden floor 1 - 1.2 meters above the ground, and the slats 1 - 1.3 cm apart so that sheep droppings can fall below.
Sheep are easier to raise than goats, have fewer diseases, eat very little, not only eat grass but also eat leaves, or even processed starches such as bran, corn, potatoes... Sheep also adapt to the climate very well, the temperature is about above 20 degrees Celsius, in the cold season, low temperature must pay attention to cover the barn, and keep the sheep warm.

Sheep eat grass like cows and goats. |
Up to now, Mr. Tu's sheep farm has nearly 100 sheep, of which nearly 10 are entering the reproductive stage. According to Mr. Tu, raising a breeding sheep until it reaches a weight of 20 - 30kg/head takes 6 - 8 months, which is most suitable for commercial sheep. The current price of live sheep ranges from 140 - 150 thousand VND/kg, so with the current flock of sheep, he is expected to earn hundreds of millions of VND when sold to the market. If selling boneless meat for 400 - 450 thousand VND/kg, the revenue is 1.2 - 1.5 times higher than selling live sheep.

Many sheep are in heat. |
When the Khe Noc dam upgrade and restoration project is completed, Mr. Tu will take over the contract and invest about 1.5 - 2 billion VND to build an ecological culinary area, increasing the total number of sheep to about 200, along with raising goats and cows.
This farmer's upcoming plan is to link up with domestic sheep farms, aiming for export.
