Tuong Duong farmers earn over 20 billion VND in revenue from passion fruit

The passion fruit growing project area is located in communes on the Western Nghe An beltway, convenient for the circulation of goods, materials for basic construction work and necessary materials for the passion fruit care process as well as in the process of transporting project products to the place of consumption.

After more than 1 year of implementing the passion fruit planting project, up to now, the district has planted 128.3 hectares. Currently, people are harvesting the lemon area planted in 2017; the estimated summer-autumn crop yield is 700 tons, with a revenue of nearly 10 billion VND; the estimated total output for 2018 is from 1,668 - 1,925 tons, with a revenue of over 20 billion VND, creating new jobs for over 500 workers in Nhon Mai and Huu Khuong communes.

From the results achieved, people were very excited and actively participated in the project, creating a breakthrough in converting the crop structure, becoming a specialized area for growing passion fruit, creating new jobs for hundreds of workers in the project area.

After the field inspection, comrade Dinh Viet Hong worked with the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district on the development of collective economy, cooperatives, and craft villages in the district.

After 5 years of implementing the Law on Cooperatives (Cooperatives) in 2012, up to now, the total number of cooperatives in the district is 11 cooperatives with 131 members. Of which, there are 9 agricultural cooperatives, 2 non-agricultural cooperatives; 9/18 communes and towns have cooperatives. The cooperatives have created linkages in agricultural production, created jobs, increased income for a part of farmers participating in cooperatives and enjoying the services provided by cooperatives.

Tuong Duong has recognized two villages with brocade weaving craft in Son Ha village, Tam Quang commune and Mac village, Thach Giam commune.

However, in the district, the collective economic movement and cooperatives have not developed commensurate with their potential and advantages. Most cooperatives are small-scale, with fragmented production and business activities, not dynamic, and slow to overcome difficulties and weaknesses...

At the meeting, the leaders of Tuong Duong district requested the province to pay attention to supporting training courses for communes without cooperatives on the law on cooperatives and policies of the Party and State on cooperative development; and provide guidance on the establishment of cooperatives for good production households and production groups in the district.

Concluding the working session, comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the initial results of the cooperatives in recent times.

He pointed out a number of problems and difficulties that need to be overcome and suggested that in the coming time, Tuong Duong district needs to lead and direct the development of collective economy, cooperatives, and craft villages more drastically; focus on propaganda and mobilization in many forms so that people can easily understand, know and choose to participate in cooperative models; assign localities and district agencies to re-survey and expand cooperatives suitable to local conditions. Focus on the issue of planting and protecting forests, liquidating ineffective crops; increase attraction of enterprises to invest in the agricultural sector; need to proactively choose suitable locations for cooperatives...
