Xieng My farmers 'get four times the return' from experimenting with growing incense roots
After more than 2 years of testing the planting of a new type of tree in Xieng My commune (Tuong Duong district), people are excited to harvest and sell it in the garden for high profits.
On the morning of March 4, households experimenting with growing agarwood roots in Pieng O village, Xieng My commune (Tuong Duong) rushed to harvest after more than 2 years of planting.

Mr. Lo Danh - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Xieng My commune said that in April 2022, through the guidance of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district, the People's Committee of the commune researched and tested new crops and encouraged households to invest in planting agarwood. This is the first time this type of tree has been planted in Xieng My. Officials of the People's Committee of the commune and the Farmers' Association coordinated to support households in contacting the seedling supplier in Quy Chau district to plant 2 hectares of agarwood in Pieng O village.

Specifically, Mr. Vang Van Ca's family planted 1.5 hectares; Mrs. Luong Thi Son's family planted 0.5 hectares. With encouragement from all levels, Mr. Ca's family boldly invested 8 million VND, Mrs. Son's family invested 5 million VND to buy agarwood root seedlings at the price of 8,000 VND/kg.

“Households started planting in May 2022. For the past two days, Mr. Vang Van Ca’s household has been actively harvesting with the help of local people. Traders come to buy at the field at a price of 9,000 VND/kg. It is estimated that 1.5 hectares of incense roots this season will yield about 7 tons,” said Mr. Lo Danh.

It is known that at the end of 2024, Ms. Luong Thi Son's household harvested the first batch of incense roots, earning 20 million VND, minus the cost of buying seeds, the remaining profit was 15 million VND. Meanwhile, Mr. Vang Van Ca's household just harvested the first batch this year, expected to earn about 60 million VND.
