Farmers in Nghe An province transform water hyacinth into bio-fertilizer.

(Baonghean.vn) - By applying technological techniques, farmers in Quynh Luu (Nghe An) have used water hyacinth to produce bio-fertilizer. This model helps farmers minimize the use of inorganic fertilizers such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, contributing to environmental protection in the locality.

The family of Mr. Tran Ngoc Chung in Block 9, Cau Giat town, is the third household in Quynh Luu district to receive technical assistance and financial support from the district's Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Center to implement a model using various types of water hyacinth to process and compost into bio-fertilizer.

Regarding the process, Mr. Chung explained: Water hyacinth is an easily available ingredient, combined with some animal manure and probiotics to make compost. This time, his family prepared 6 tons of water hyacinth and 4 tons of animal manure. The water hyacinth is cut into pieces and mixed in a ratio of 2 parts water hyacinth to 1 part manure. Then, probiotics are mixed with water and sprayed evenly on the surface. Once the composting is complete, a tarp is used to cover the compost pile to create a high temperature for the ingredients to decompose quickly. After 25-30 days, 4-4.5 tons of bio-fertilizer are produced, which can be used to fertilize crops.

Given the reality that farmers largely rely on chemical fertilizers, which gradually deplete soil fertility, producing organic fertilizers ensures better soil regeneration. Furthermore, recognizing that water hyacinths in canals and ditches are quite prevalent, causing blockages and hindering agricultural production, encouraging farmers to remove them will both help clear the canals and create a source of organic fertilizer, increasing humus content and soil fertility.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Hung, head of the agricultural extension station in Quynh Luu district, said: "Based on that, we want to create a cleaner organic fertilizer for crops. By using a beneficial microbial preparation, BIO-F, this strain of bacteria quickly decomposes cellulose and organic matter to become a high-quality fertilizer for various crops, especially high-value crops such as flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees."

Water hyacinth is abundant in canals and ditches in many localities. This is a plentiful source of raw material for making bio-fertilizer.

The model of composting with microorganisms is a significant direction for agriculture, as it not only increases the productivity of crops but also contributes to environmental protection. This method is being encouraged by the government to be widely implemented in various localities.
