According to Nghe An Newspaper, at 3:00 p.m. on December 15, 2017, PC 46 Department of Nghe An Police coordinated with Tuong Duong District Police to issue a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain two suspects: Phan Van Trung (born in 1969) - Head of Tam Hop Protective Forest Management Station and Le Dinh Quyet (born in 1978) - Head of Ang Village Forest Management Station (in charge of protecting forests in Luu Kien and Xa Luong communes).
These are two forest protection station chiefs under the Tuong Duong Protective Forest Management Board. Both were prosecuted and temporarily detained for the crime of lack of responsibility causing serious consequences under Article 285 of the Penal Code due to previous lack of responsibility and laxity in forest management and protection causing serious consequences in the Vietnam-Laos border protection forest area in the two communes of Tam Hop and Luu Kien.

Regarding the prosecution and temporary detention of two forest protection officers in Tuong Duong, on March 1, 2017, Tuong Duong Forest Protection Department received a report from the district's Forest Protection Management Board reflecting on the discovery of deforestation in the Vietnam - Laos border protection forest, the area bordering Tam Hop and Luu Kien communes.
On March 10, 2017, the authorities inspected and verified the actual scene. Implementing the direction of the Standing Committee of the Tuong Duong District Party Committee, on March 27, 2017, the Investigation Agency of the Tuong Duong District Police issued Decision 41 to initiate a criminal case of violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection.
Nghe An police are continuing to investigate the case.
