High-tech agriculture: A remarkable achievement.

(Baonghean) - In 2010, Nghe An province approved the Project for the Development of High-Tech Agriculture until 2020. In implementing the project, besides developing a plan, Nghe An focused on conducting research, technology transfer, and agricultural extension in agricultural production, such as: Applying biotechnological achievements to select, propagate, and intensively cultivate high-yield, high-quality varieties; applying biotechnology and enzyme technology to the processing of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products; transferring scientific and technological advancements into the mass production of advantageous agricultural products...

To date, several high-tech agricultural production projects have been implemented in Nghe An province and have initially yielded high economic efficiency, such as: the industrial-scale dairy farming project in Nghia Dan district by TH Milk Food Joint Stock Company with a herd of 40,208 dairy cows; the dairy farming project in Dong Hieu (Thai Hoa town) by Vinamilk Joint Stock Company with a herd of 2,650 dairy cows. In addition, Thang Nam Forestry Joint Stock Company has many high-tech projects in growing vegetables and flowers for export in greenhouses; a fish farming project in cages on lakes using Israeli technology; and an MDF wood processing project in Nghia Dan with a capacity of 400,000 tons of products per year.

Several notable projects are also underway in the area, such as: a project to cultivate and process bananas using tissue culture technology (100% foreign-invested by a South Korean company), which has planted 55 hectares in Vien Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district) and exported over 250 tons of fresh bananas to South Korea; and a project to build a high-tech functional food production and processing complex for rice production, in which Nghe An Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company, Vinh Hoa Company Limited, and several other businesses are participating in linking with households to build large-scale model fields, creating a highly efficient agricultural production value chain. The province now has three science and technology enterprises in the agricultural sector: Nghe An Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company, Vinh Hoa Company Limited, and Thanh Mai Biotechnology Company Limited (for production and daily life). These units actively support farmers with high-quality, high-yield purebred seeds, provide farmers with loans for fertilizers before the planting season, and gradually establish linkages for the consumption of agricultural products...

The application of scientific and technological advancements in production has contributed to the transformation of the economic structure and the improvement of the quality and added value of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products. Based on this, the province has implemented programs to restructure the crop production sector, applying good agricultural practices; reviewing and supplementing the development plan for major crops, innovating varieties, applying scientific and technological advancements, improving farming methods, and simultaneously promoting mechanization to increase production value.
