Hot: Mr. Vo Kim Cu was proposed to be dismissed from office

Mr. Vo Kim Cu, former Secretary of Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee, currently Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, was voted by the Party Committee of the Central Agencies to propose disciplinary dismissal.

Last week, the Party Committee of the Central Agencies voted by a large margin to propose disciplinary action against Mr. Vo Kim Cu, currently Secretary of the Party Committee - Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA).

"This is the proposed disciplinary action due to Mr. Cu's violations while in Ha Tinh, related to the environmental incident that Formosa caused in the central coastal provinces exactly one year ago," an anonymous source said.

In addition to the Party Committee of the Central Agencies, Mr. Cu also had to review the Party organizations where he was active, including Ha Tinh and VCA. Even at VCA, he received a number of disciplinary recommendations at the severe level of dismissal.

Mr. Cu is one of many officials identified as having committed many serious violations and shortcomings, to the point of requiring consideration and disciplinary action - according to the conclusion of the Central Inspection Committee on inspection when there are signs of violations related to the Formosa project in Ha Tinh, announced in February 2017.

Accordingly, in addition to the collective responsibility of the Party Committee of the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province for the terms 2004-2011, 2011-2016 in leadership and direction; lax management and operation; lack of inspection and supervision during project implementation; violations in appraisal, approval, licensing and state management of the Formosa Ha Tinh project, the main personal responsibility is determined to belong to Mr. Cu.

Mr. Cu was Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Management Board of the Ha Tinh Economic Zone for the 2008-2010 period, then Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for the 2011-2016 term. He briefly served as Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee before moving to Hanoi to serve as Secretary of the Party Delegation and Chairman of the VCA.

According to Party regulations, the results of the review and disciplinary vote on Mr. Cu in the Party organizations that he was required to review are for reference only. However, the proposal of high-level discipline is often important for the final decision-making level.

Mr. Vo Kim Cu is a cadre under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat. The authority to discipline cadres like him belongs to the Central Inspection Committee, if only at the level of reprimand or warning. If it is deemed necessary to discipline at a higher level, such as dismissal from office, the Central Inspection Committee will report and propose to the Politburo and the Secretariat to decide.
