Hot: IS organization has new leader

Saudi Arabia's Al-Arabiya TV channel confirmed on July 15 that Jalaluddin al-Tunisi, commander of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in Libya, will become the leader of this terrorist organization after IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed.

The TV channel said al-Tunisi is the biggest candidate to revive the terrorist movement and expand its influence in North Africa as IS suffers heavy losses in Syria and Iraq.

Previously, on July 11, Iraq's al-Sumaria TV channel reported that IS confirmed that Baghdadi was killed in an airstrike by the Russian military.

In a short statement issued in Tal Afar, Mosul city in northern Iraq, IS confirmed Baghdadi's death and said it would soon choose al-Baghdadi's replacement.

In fact, IS quickly needed a new leader after its failures in Syria and Iraq.

Jalaluddin al-Tunisi has the advantage of commanding IS. His real name is Mohamed ben Salem al-Ayouni, born in 1982 in Masaken, Sousse province of Tunisia.

After migrating to France in the 1990s, he obtained French citizenship and returned to Tunisia during the Jasmine Revolution that overthrew the government of former President Zine El Abidine ben Ali.

In 2011, he went to Syria when civil war broke out there.

In 2014, he joined the ranks of IS. Jalaluddin al-Tunisi was a close associate of Baghdadi.

Baghdadi himself appointed al-Tunisia as the leader of IS in Libya in 2016, believing that he had the ability to win and had good relations with other terrorist groups in North Africa./.
