(Baonghean.vn) – Up to this point, 2 out of 20 students with kidney failure in Hanh Dich commune, Que Phong district, Nghe An have died.

Doctor Lang Van Thai, Director of Que Phong District General Hospital, Nghe An said: From November 2016 to now, in Hanh Dich commune, there have been scattered cases of kidney failure, mainly among primary and secondary school students. Up to this point, the whole commune has had 20 children with severe kidney failure, of which 2 have died.

The first patient to die was Lo Van Hieu, 12 years old, in Cham Put village, a 7th grade student at Hanh Dich Primary and Secondary School, admitted to the hospital on December 2, 2016, with symptoms of edema, dark urine, the patient was diagnosed with acute renal failure. From Que Phong District General Hospital, Hieu was transferred directly to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. On December 3, 2016, the patient's condition worsened, the patient's family asked him to go home and he died on December 10, 2016 at home.

The second deceased patient was Lo Van Tuan, 8 years old, in class 2B (younger brother of Lo Van Hieu). Lo Van Tuan was admitted to Que Phong District General Hospital on January 3, 2017 with the above symptoms, showing signs of acute kidney failure. Tuan was treated and transferred to Nghe An Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital on January 4, 2017 and transferred to the National Children's Hospital on January 5, 2017 for treatment; then the patient returned home to celebrate Tet and died at home on February 20, 2017.

Of the 20 cases, 17 are secondary school boarding students, and the remaining 3 are primary school students.

Pharmacist Hoang Van Hao - Deputy Director in charge of Nghe An Department of Health said: In the face of the above situation, on the morning of February 20, 2016, the Department of Health established a working group including doctors from the Provincial Center for Preventive Medicine, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Food Safety and Hygiene Department, and the Medical Center and General Hospital of Que Phong district to go to Hanh Dich commune to conduct an investigation and collect samples for testing.

On the morning of February 21, 2017, the Department of Health convened a meeting of the Professional Council to determine the cause of the above situation. Initially, the Nghe An Department of Health diagnosed: The number of patients with acute glomerulonephritis is suspected to be caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus.

Currently, the Nghe An Department of Health has directed the Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Que Phong District to continue investigating and grasping the disease situation. At the same time, the Department reported to the Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Health and requested the Ministry of Health to send experts to help./.
