Noo Phuoc Thinh - 'the quiet tycoon'
With a bright stage presence and a good live voice, Noo Phuoc Thinh quickly became famous and became one of the highest-paid singers in Vietnamese showbiz. However, few people know that he had a difficult childhood, being shunned and openly despised by his friends.
Childhood dare not ask
Noo Phuoc Thinh shared that he is the only child in the family. When he was born, his grandfather named him Nguyen Phuoc Thanh. The word Thanh is a bit difficult to read, so when making the birth certificate, his mother changed it to Thinh. He was born on December 18, and his family affectionately called him Noel. However, the adults in the family often called him No. The word No sounded a bit difficult to hear, so his parents added the letter o to make Noo. His official nickname has been there ever since. To preserve the image of his family, he also used this affectionate name as his stage name when participating in the arts.
In primary school, after school, he went to the store to help his mother. He called it helping but in reality he just sat next to her to make her happy. He also used the store's steps as a study table. Later, his father's younger sister settled abroad, and Noo's family moved to this house to live with his grandmother.
At the same time, his father's business failed and he owed some money. His mother had to close down the grocery store and rent out the frontage to pay off the debt. The family of four lived in the back of the house. The room downstairs was tiny, just enough to put a bed for his grandmother, a TV and a desk. The kitchen was also temporarily placed in a corner. All activities such as bathing and laundry were only in a space about 5 bricks wide. Above was a mezzanine for sleeping. His family lived in those difficult conditions for quite a long time.
Phuoc Thinh knew that his family was in a difficult situation, so he never asked for anything. Sometimes, he really wanted a few toys, but he never dared to ask for them. Because he knew his mother was a thoughtful person, and if he asked for them and didn't have money to buy them, she would be sad. What he feared most was making his relatives upset.
Ever since he was little, he loved seeing his friends with teddy bears. Every time he passed by a shopping mall, he would not forget to take a look at the area. One Christmas, his mother told Phuoc Thinh to write a letter to Santa Claus. He did not hesitate to write in the letter asking him to give him a teddy bear. To this day, Noo still keeps that teddy bear and considers it his own treasure.
Overcoming difficulties
People often say that poor children study well, but Noo is not like that. His academic performance is only average. His aunt is a teacher. Every day, he goes to her house to "supplement" his knowledge. Because he loves to play and never concentrates, certificates are a luxury for him. His poor academic performance, combined with his shy and quiet nature, made Phuoc Thinh shunned by his friends. At school, he was always alone, not caring about anyone.
In secondary school, thanks to an acquaintance, he was able to study at Vo Truong Toan School in District 1. At this school, most of the students were from rich families and good students. Due to his difficult circumstances and not being able to study well, he was openly looked down upon by his friends and no one wanted to play with him. He became an outcast and even more timid. Back then, he considered going to school as torture. Noo also had some "silent love affairs".
In high school, Noo studied at Hoang Hoa Tham Secondary School, Binh Thanh District. The friends here were quite cheerful and sociable, helping Noo regain his confidence in making friends and chatting. In his final year of high school, during the school's performance, a female friend "pointed out" him to a fashion show. At that time, he only thought of going on stage for fun and then getting off. However, he realized that he liked the spotlight, liked the feeling of being noticed by everyone.
At the end of that year, a friend secretly sent him a photo to register and he was even more surprised when a representative of Muc Tim newspaper invited him to discuss the Xi Tin Muc Tim 2007 contest. He could not have imagined that from then on, he would be on the cover of many newspapers and magazines and invited to be an advertising model. Noo was known as a pretty famous hotboy at that time. Despite that, he still put his studies first and passed the entrance exam to the Business Administration major at Hutech University in Ho Chi Minh City.
His musical talent was discovered by singer Thuy Tien. After a few “trials”, he decided that his long journey would be music. In the early days of his singing career, Phuoc Thinh encountered many difficulties. Many nights, he had to wait from the beginning to the end of the show to perform with a very low salary. But once he stepped on stage, all his fatigue and worries disappeared.
With a bright stage appearance and strong live voice, Noo quickly became famous. Noo is a unique case among the generation of hotboys and hotgirls who sing. He is highly appreciated for his singing voice, not his appearance. Therefore, he is always confident, because he has appeared in both commercial and artistic shows. Every song he releases to the market becomes a hit.
Noo has won many awards at HTV Award, Mai Vang, Lan Song Xanh, Zing Music Awards... In 2016, he also won the Best Asian Artist Vietnam award presented by Mnet Asian Music Awards. This is an annual music award in Korea. With what he has achieved, Noo's salary has also increased every year. According to insiders, he is currently one of the singers with the highest salary in Vietnamese showbiz. He also received many advertising contracts worth up to several billion VND... He is also a rare singer appointed as Japan's Tourism Ambassador... Noo Phuoc Thinh is a successful singer with the nickname hotboy. His name has not faded over time like his peers. On the contrary, he is becoming more and more famous, the amount of money he earns is increasing. He rarely shows off or tells about his wealth to the media.
However, at present, he is one of the richest young artists in Vietnamese showbiz... When asked about his wealth, Noo just smiled and said that he was lucky to have changed to a bigger house. He feels happy because all his assets are from working hard on shows. He feels that he is truly rich because he looks up and is not as good as anyone else, but looking down, he is better than many people.
