People's Artist Ly Huynh celebrates his 74th birthday
Actors Ly Hung and Ly Huong and their families held a birthday party for their father - a veteran artist of the Vietnamese film industry - and celebrated his 40th year in the film industry.
On the evening of February 27, People's Artist Ly Huynh's family held a birthday party for him in Ho Chi Minh City. Many colleagues and friends of the next generation attended this party to congratulate him such as: People's Artist The Anh, Professor - Doctor Tran Luan Kim, actress Mong Van, singer - actor Nguyen Phi Hung...
Artist Ly Huynh's children and grandchildren all gathered at the party. Actress Ly Huong - the youngest daughter - came from the US to Ho Chi Minh City to wish her father a long life. She shared: "I can only thank God for helping my father overcome his serious illness. I am happy that my father's health has recovered compared to last year. The whole family wishes for my father to be healthy so that his children and grandchildren can continue to have the opportunity to show their gratitude to him when he is old. My father has always been the pride of me and my family."

At the birthday party, Ly Huynh could not hide his emotions when receiving wishes for good health from everyone. After the film Tay Son Hao Kiet in 2010, he rarely participated in the film industry because of his declining health. What made him most depressed was witnessing his daughter Ly Huong go through a lot of pressure and sadness in her personal life. When her daughter overcame the storm and returned to Vietnam to take care of him for the past year, Ly Huynh's health gradually recovered. However, he still lives with diabetes, kidney disease... For many years, he has cherished making a film about female general Bui Thi Xuan but he has not yet started it.
Every year, Ly Huynh's family holds a birthday party for him. This year, the party is even more meaningful because it marks his 40th year in the film industry. He has many children, but only Ly Huong and Ly Hung will follow in their father's footsteps. Therefore, he expressed his hope that his two children will not give up their acting career despite difficulties and pressures.
Since 1976, Ly Huynh has acted in many Vietnamese films. As a famous martial artist, he was among the first Vietnamese to successfully bring martial arts into Vietnamese cinema. His first role was Colonel Hoang in the film Co Nhiep, which later won the Silver Lotus Award. After that, he participated in many films: First Love (1977) by director Hai Ninh, Vortex, Mr. Hai Cu, Hon Dat, Mua Gio Chuong... The role of Hai Lua in Vortex brought him the Best Actor award at the 6th Vietnam Film Festival (1983).

In 2012, Ly Huynh was awarded the title of People's Artist. He is also a martial artist who was ranked among the "four elite" before 1975, famous for his "Lien hoan bat cuoc" (Jumping and kicking eight times in the air).
From 1957 to 1964, Ly Huynh fought 6 times in boxing and won 3 matches, including knocking out his opponent Lyauté Francoise - a famous black boxer.

In 1965, he started opening a martial arts school, training many good martial artists with names starting with the two words "Ly Huynh", such as: Ly Huynh Cuong, Ly Huynh Yen...
In 1973, he became famous when he publicly challenged Bruce Lee to a fight on television. This event was reported by the Vietnamese and Hong Kong press at the time. However, Bruce Lee passed away before he could accept the challenge.
