French female Defense Minister suddenly announced her resignation

French Defense Minister Sylvie Goulard has officially announced her resignation after only 1 month in office.

Speaking to the press, Ms. Goulard said that she could not stay in the Government while she was facing the possibility of being investigated for alleged misuse of public funds.

Ms. Goulard emphasized that her decision will help President Macron fulfill his commitment to restore the government apparatus and carry out major reforms in France and Europe to clean up politics.

According toAFP, the decision to resign of Defense Minister Sylvie Goulard due to her involvement in the misuse of public funds scandal, which is shaking France.

The previous June, Paris prosecutors opened a preliminary investigation into allegations that her “Movement for Democracy” party had misused European parliamentary funds to pay staff.

Ms. Sylvie Goulard took over as French defense minister after Mr. Macron was elected president in May.
