According to official sources from the Royal Palace, the decision to strip Infanta Cristina of her title as Duchess of Palma de Mallorca will be announced in a royal decree on June 13th.

Infanta Cristina, 49, was granted the title of Duchess by King Juan Carlo in 1997. She is married to Urdangarin, 47, a former Olympic handball champion. However, she is accused of involvement in a tax corruption scandal linked to her husband.

According to the allegations, Urdangarin used his royal status to secure contracts in the Balearic Islands and Valencia through his non-profit company, Noos. The amount involved in the scandal is estimated at 6.1 million euros.

After a four-year investigation, on December 22, 2014, the court decided to summon Infanta Cristina to appear in court for the first time. This was also the first time a member of the royal family had been summoned to court in the history of the Spanish monarchy.
