Vietnam's first female Ambassador to UNESCO presents her credentials

Vietnam is increasingly participating actively in UNESCO activities.

On the afternoon of September 28, at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris (France), Ambassador - Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO, Tran Thi Hoang Mai, presented her credentials to Ms. Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO.

Speaking at the reception, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova highly appreciated the development between UNESCO and Vietnam in recent times.

Ms. Bokova thanked the Vietnamese Government for her successful visit and work in Vietnam in late August 2017.

The UNESCO Director-General also affirmed the increasingly sustainable relationship between UNESCO and Vietnam.

For her part, Ambassador Tran Thi Hoang Mai affirmed the importance of UNESCO in bringing advanced ideas in five areas: Education, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Culture, Information and Communication, and helping to implement them in Vietnam.

New Ambassador Tran Thi Hoang Mai emphasized that UNESCO projects, including many interdisciplinary and cross-sector projects, have contributed to Vietnam's sustainable development.

Currently, cooperation between the two sides is very good, especially in the cultural field and Ambassador Tran Thi Hoang Mai hopes that in the coming years, the two sides will promote the exploitation of the rich potential in the fields of Science, Education and Information.

The Ambassador thanked the Director-General for her great contributions to UNESCO and to the relationship between the Organization and Vietnam during her two terms, as well as her good feelings for the country and people of Vietnam.

The Ambassador emphasized Vietnam's substantial contributions to UNESCO, through active participation in UNESCO forums such as the World Heritage Committee, the Executive Council as well as the participation of Vietnamese experts in the UNESCO expert system in the fields of Science, Education and Culture.

Finally, the Ambassador pledged to do his utmost to contribute to promoting the friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and UNESCO to develop better and better, and to increase Vietnam's participation and increasingly active and responsible contributions to UNESCO's common work during his term.

Sharing with VOV reporters after the ceremony of presenting her credentials, Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai expressed her joy and pride at officially starting her role as Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO.

She said that with UNESCO's increasingly important position in the world's cultural, educational and scientific life and Vietnam's increasingly active participation in the organization's activities, her tasks in the coming time will be very heavy.

Ms. Mai expressed her honor to be the first female Ambassador of Vietnam to UNESCO and said that this is a diverse and difficult field of activity, but also a field in which women have special advantages, and have had many successes./.
