On February 24, 2016, the family received news that Ms. Huong had died in China.

According to the announcement from the authorities, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong crossed the border into China on January 26, 2016. On January 31, 2016, the police of Guangdong province (China) discovered Ms. Huong stabbed in the stomach in Am Phu town, Kieu Dong district, Trieu Chau city (Guangdong province). The local police took Ms. Huong to the emergency room but due to severe injuries, she passed away on February 2, 2016.
