South China Morning Postreported, in an interview withNBCOn July 11, a Russian female lawyer said she received a call from a strange man inviting her to meet Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump.
However, she said she had no information detrimental to Mrs. Clinton, and had never worked for the Russian government.
“All I knew was that Donald Trump Jr. was willing to meet with me. It was pretty clear that they were probably looking for information about Clinton. They were very eager to get it,” Veselnitskaya said.
The female lawyer confirmed withNBCthat she did not initiate the meeting with Mr. Trump Jr. and that she was lobbying against Washington sanctions affecting Moscow but was not working for the Kremlin.
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner also attended the meeting but left after a few minutes, Ms Veselnitskaya added. Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort was also there, but he was focused on his phone.
Interview withNBCIt was the first time the Russian lawyer had spoken publicly since Donald Trump Jr. admitted that the purpose of the meeting was to get information about his father's Democratic opponent.
Mr. Trump Jr. said the meeting was arranged by someone he knew after the 2013 Miss Universe pageant that Mr. Trump organized in Moscow.
On July 11, Mr. Trump Jr. wrote on Twitter: “The media and the Democrats are overplaying the Trump-Russia story. If this bullshit meeting is what they find after a year, I know how desperate they are.”
Mr. Donald Trump Jr. also affirmed his willingness to cooperate with the Senate Intelligence Committee on this issue.
