A female farmer with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
(Baonghean) - Originally from a poor farming family, Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan, residing in Hamlet 6, Dien Hanh Commune, Dien Chau District, has overcome difficulties and risen to establish a construction business, creating stable jobs for more than 120 workers in the area.
Visiting Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan's home in Hamlet 6, Dien Hanh Commune (Dien Chau District), we found her busy attending meetings with technical staff about daily work; assigning tasks to each team of workers at construction sites, checking records and documents...
Having previously worked solely in agriculture, but still struggling year-round, Ms. Toan discussed with her husband the idea of establishing a civil construction team with over 10 workers. "Our team undertakes all kinds of civil construction projects, from single-story houses, fences, water tanks, gates, to multi-story buildings," Ms. Toan shared.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Ms. Toan's team of workers undertook most of the civil construction projects for the communes of Dien Hanh, Dien Xuan, and Dien Nguyen in Dien Chau district. The projects were of high quality and aesthetic appeal, and word spread, leading Ms. Toan to receive many more projects. She then recruited over 30 additional workers to meet the construction demand.
To ensure legal status and pay taxes to the State, Ms. Toan established a Limited Liability Company and recruited 120 additional workers, mainly local people. She said: "Previously, the construction of civil works was quite simple, like small single-story houses, which might not require a design. Now, people have the means to build 2-3 story houses, so they demand that they be built according to the design. Therefore, the company recruits more construction engineers. In addition to constructing civil works, the company also builds state-owned projects such as roads, commune offices, and irrigation canals..."
The workforce is always loyal to the company, with year-round employment and stable salaries ranging from 4 to 6 million VND per person per month. Workers receive work clothes and protective equipment annually; salaries are paid promptly each month, and those in particularly difficult circumstances are given salary advances. Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, who has worked for the company for 10 years, shared: “Currently, we are paid 250,000 VND per day, so our monthly income is about 7 million VND, a significant source of income in rural areas, allowing us to improve our lives and support our children's education.” Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thai, a construction worker in Dien Hanh, said: “Construction workers like me also earn over 5 million VND per month. The important thing is that the company provides year-round work and stable salaries, unlike the erratic work elsewhere…”
Mr. Tang Van Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Hanh commune, added: "As a purely agricultural commune, the lives of the people still face many difficulties. In recent years, thanks to the stable operation of Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan's company, it has provided stable employment and income for more than 100 workers in the commune, 30% of whom are Catholic. As a result, many families have risen out of poverty and become more prosperous."
Besides creating jobs for many local workers, Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan also actively participates in social activities such as the Women's Association and the Farmers' Association, contributing funds to the commune and villages to build rural roads according to the new rural development criteria. She is also active in charity and humanitarian work, annually donating 40-50 million VND to support disabled children and assist families entitled to preferential policies.
With these achievements, for many years Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan has been honored with numerous Certificates of Commendation from district and provincial authorities, becoming an exemplary figure in the labor and production movement.
