Russian spokeswoman: Some countries' peace proposals on Ukraine contain 'feasible ideas'

In an interview with TASS news agency, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the peace initiatives on resolving the Ukrainian conflict proposed by many countries contain ideas that can be effective.
Asked by a TASS correspondent at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2023 (SPIEF) whether any of the peaceful settlement plans proposed by other countries were feasible, Zakharova replied, “Of course.”
“I repeat that we are grateful to every country, every state, every public figure – because many initiatives have been proposed by famous individuals, internationalists; we are grateful to all those who spoke about peace, spoke about solutions that would bring peace, and also to those who wanted to be useful in this matter,” she said.
“There are interesting ideas that could work. There are ideas that are consistent with our views, such as the Chinese proposal,” she continued.
The main problem, Ms. Zakharova stressed, is that such initiatives are being hindered “by the Kiev authorities, which are forbidding themselves” from holding any talks with Russia.
“All of this was blocked by Zelensky (President of Ukraine), because this view was put forward by Washington. Washington pursues the concept of ‘killing as many Russians as possible’. Many prominent representatives of the US political world, including George Bush Jr (former US President) and Senator Graham, have spoken out about this idea,” Zakharova said.
Washington is fixated on the idea of complete domination in the world and strategically defeating Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman added.
From there, she argued that the problem “is not about the nature of the proposed initiatives, but about Ukraine's inability to move towards peace because of the obstacles set by political scientists from Washington.”
American political scientists, she added, “have a completely different view of Ukraine’s future.” According to Zakharova, the United States is not interested in Ukraine’s prosperity and independence because it sees the country as a tool to influence Russia and the region in general.
There are similar trends with China and the European Union (EU), Ms. Zakharova said.
“Because Russia is by no means the ultimate goal for Washington in this game. Its goal is certainly China, and Washington wants to go crazy with China's economic growth, with its technological development, with its independent direction, with its capabilities, with its determination, with its signing of partnerships with other countries,” Zakharova said.
Washington is also “embarrassing the EU and causing as many problems as possible for the region while still seeing the EU as a trusted partner, ally and good friend,” she added.
The 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) – Russia’s annual business and economic event – was held from June 14 to 17. The theme of this year’s forum is “Sovereign Development as the Foundation of a Just World: Uniting for Future Generations”.
