'Monster woman' stops gambling and rents cars to sell
(Baonghean.vn) - After renting a Mazda 3, Khanh Ly hired someone to make fake documents and then sold it. Ly used the money for personal expenses and gambling.
On January 10, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Ho Khanh Ly (born 1991), residing in Nghi Xuan commune, Nghi Loc district (Nghe An) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
The case file shows that Ho Khanh Ly is unemployed and has no stable income. Ly was previously administratively punished for trading and transporting firecrackers and gambling. In debt, Ly came up with the idea of fraud by renting a car and then using fake documents to sell the car.

Specifically, because they knew each other before, on March 1, 2021, Ly contacted Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu, an employee working at a self-driving car rental center located in Vinh City. The two parties agreed to sign a contract to rent a white Mazda 3 car for 800,000 VND/day, until March 30, 2021. Ly gave Mr. Hieu a deposit of 5 million VND in advance.
Ly then hired someone to make fake car papers in her name. On March 26, Ly asked a friend to sell the rented car to pay off her debt. Through her friend's connection, Ly sold the Mazda 3 to a man in Ha Tinh for VND600 million.
On April 1, 2021, Ho Khanh Ly participated in illegal gambling in Hong Linh town (Ha Tinh) with a number of other subjects and was caught red-handed by the police. Ly quickly fled the area and was issued a decision by the police.wanted.
More than 4 months later, on August 6, 2021, Ho Khanh Ly was arrested by Nghe An Police and handed over to Hong Linh Town Police for handling according to the provisions of law. After that, Ly was sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison for Gambling. Combined with the previous 1-year prison sentence, the court ordered Ly to serve a sentence of 3 years and 3 months in prison.
As for the car that Ly forged documents and sold, the authorities valued it at 530 million VND.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. Ly admitted to the fraud and asked the court to consider a lighter sentence because she was raising a small child alone and was pregnant.
Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Ho Khanh Ly to 9 years in prison for “fraudulent appropriation of property”. Combined with the previous sentence of 3 years and 3 months in prison, the court ordered Ly to serve a total sentence of 12 years and 3 months in prison./.
