'Female monster' swindles over 15 billion VND using many tricks
(Baonghean.vn) - Using many sophisticated tricks such as cheating to sell houses, asking for jobs, "bragging" about being the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a large restaurant chain, inviting people to contribute shares to share high profits, making up "spiritual" content that required rituals... Giang has defrauded many people, appropriating more than 15 billion VND.
On April 3 and 4, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a criminal trial to try defendants Tran Thi Hong Giang (born 1981), residing in Quynh Hong commune, Quynh Luu district and Nguyen Thi Tuyet (born 1988), residing in Quynh Bang commune, Quynh Luu district for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property”.
According to the investigation agency's documents, due to unemployment and addiction to playing online games leading to losses, Giang came up with the idea of appropriating other people's money.
Giang provided false information such as being the Director of GoGi House restaurant in Vinh city and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the restaurant chain to persuade people to contribute shares and share high profits.
In addition, Giang also provided false information about selling a house, applying for a job, and giving “spiritual” content about having to perform a ritual to ward off bad luck. Giang used the account “Mai nho ve me” to text and call the victims to urge them to transfer money.

With the above tricks, from June 2020 to January 2022, Tran Thi Hong Giang committed 6 acts of fraud against 8 victims with a total amount of more than 15.1 billion VND.
In this case, Nguyen Thi Tuyet participated as an accomplice. Around July 2021, Tuyet learned that Giang had defrauded the victim, but because she was grateful to Giang for taking care of her, Tuyet helped Giang commit 2 acts of fraud, appropriating more than 4.2 billion VND.
Among the victims, the person who was scammed out of the most money was more than 7.4 billion VND by spiritual means. Giang gave false information, saying that the victim’s family needed to “resolve” the problem in order to take the large sum of money.
At the trial, the two defendants admitted to all their crimes. Defendant Giang said he had spent all the money he had embezzled on online games and was currently unable to pay it back.
Defendant Tuyet confessed that she helped Giang but was only occasionally given a few coins by Giang for pocket money, with a total profit of 8 million VND.
The victims attending the trial requested that the defendants return all the money they had embezzled.
After considering the role of each defendant in the case, the panel sentenced Tran Thi Hong Giang to life in prison and Nguyen Thi Tuyet to 12 years in prison.
