Khmu female student receives excellent graduation certificate

(Baonghean.vn) - Surpassing nearly 3,500 students, Xeo Thi Phon - a Kho Mu ethnic girl, became one of the 22 most outstanding students of Course 54 - Vinh University.

Meeting Xeo Thi Phon after she was honored to receive her bachelor's degree in Political Education from the school principal and teachers, she happily said: I am really happy. I want to give this gift first to my mother. Her life was hard, she did not have much education, she just wanted me to study hard so that I can change my life.

Up to now, Xeo Thi Phon is one of the ethnic minority students who are ranked as excellent at Vinh University. The Kho Mu girl grew up in Lo village, Xa Luong commune, Tuong Duong district. In high school, Phon was a student at Tuong Duong 1 High School. During her high school years, Phon was an excellent student and an advanced student for many consecutive years. She also participated in many district competitions for excellent students.

In Xa Luong commune, cases like Phon are not many because children in the commune usually only finish secondary school and then drop out. Phon's family situation is also very difficult because his parents separated when he was young, Phon grew up in the hardships and difficulties of his mother.

Talking about his mother, Phon also shared: My mother did not go to school when she was young, but later learned to read and write thanks to literacy classes. Because of the disadvantages, my mother's greatest wish is that I can study "thoroughly", not suffer from illiteracy like the children in the area.

To achieve this dream, Phon himself had to try five or ten times harder than his peers. Thinking back to four years ago, Phon’s exam scores were enough to be admitted to many other universities in Hanoi. But then, because of his love for teaching and his family’s circumstances, Phon enrolled in Vinh University.

And then, she did not disappoint her mother, teachers and friends when after 4 years of studying, her total score for the whole course was 8.47/10 points (4-point scale is 3.66/4). Few people know that, to get this result, Phon spent almost all her time studying. In the remaining time, she used to clean for families, sell goods... to help her mother with some expenses.

During her 4 years as a student, Phon also actively participated in union activities, participated in Student Olympic competitions, pedagogical competitions, and participated in scientific research projects... In particular, Phon was one of the active members of the class participating in volunteer activities to help Lao students in their studies. In addition, Phon also won the title of outstanding female student of Vinh University in the 2014-2015 school year, the 14th Kova scholarship in the category of students with the will to overcome difficulties and study well.

With excellent academic results, Phon is also hoping to soon find a suitable job. In the immediate future, after graduation, he has applied to participate in volunteer activities in remote areas. Sharing about his dream, Phon confided: I was born in Tuong Duong village, so I just want to return to my hometown to start a career, bring knowledge back to teach the children of my hometown.
